Advantix application!!!!!! Hey guys! I would really like your opinion on an issue. I have taken advantix from the vet to apply on my yorkie by myself. Just because she was a bit tangled on her shoulder blades area i thought i should comb her first and then apply it. And so i did. But after applying the advantix i checked if it was applied ok on her skin and i noticed that she had some bloody pores due to combing her before i guess. Will it be ok now that i have applied the advantix on these bloody pores or will it cause any inflammation or problems to her? The blood started to go away and the pores look to be closing again but I`m a bit concerned... :( |
I would wash it off immediately and call your vet. Saw a nasty pic on FaceBook of a dog that was chemically burned by a flea product, so I wouldn't take any chances. Reapply later when the skin is healed. Are you sure the blood spots were from the comb? |
About 8 hours have passed since i applied the advantix on my baby girl and she seems to be ok. The skin also looks ok without any burning etc and no bleeding. I think the blood was from combing bcz now it went away. What do u think? |
When Callie has a skin infection that had open sores the vet said it was fine to treat her with Advantix but to be sure I would call your vet and ask. |

It is my understanding that you should never apply these pesticides to open sores or broken skin. I'm not sure what you mean by bloody pores. Does that mean hair wall pulled out when you were combing? If you are unsure please call the vet. Some small dogs have had some bad reactions to these products even on normal skin. |
I applied Advantix to my Yorkie puppy for the first time a few days ago. My understanding is that it's absorbed through the skin anyways--that's why it lasts for a month. I didn't brush her before I applied--I just separated the hair the best I could with my fingers and squeezed the applicator onto the exposed skin. No problems at all. She was drowsy for a few hours afterwards, but I think that's normal, and she perked up and acted normally after that. If she didn't have an adverse reaction after you applied it to her roughed-up skin, I'm sure she'll be okay, but next time, be more gentle :). |
