One YT member who is really good with cameras explained that different camera flashes, light sources, and background colors can affect eye shine. This would account for the many pictures I have of my boys with one green/blue eye and one gold eye.

If I take pictures in our great room, which is painted yellow and has a big fluorescent kitchen light, I usually get gold eye shine. Pictures that I take in other parts of the house with blue, tan, or green walls and virtually no light other than the flash, give me green/blue eye shine.

I just think eye shine can be changed (just as Kristin said).

I have only a few pics of Mandie with eye shine (which just means that I used a flash). Those are all green. However, it seems logical to me that surrounding colors would play a role in that.

As for eye color - aren't all Yorkie eyes brown? (except blue borns)

The eye color is brown, but what she's referring to is the color produced by the flash. You know how in humans it's sometimes looks red in pictures? You don't see red eye in real life, just in the flash of the camera. By the way, I wasn't aware that blue borns had a different eye color than other pups, do have any links, or is this just something said on YT?

Well, I never really researched it and I only know one blue born (Mack Brown). Kendra has said his eyes are on the green side. You can see in this pic that his eyes are definitely not brown, though:

What a little cutie pie, not sure how old he was, I thought you meant when he a pup. Lot's of pups eyes will flash blue, I think that changes around the age of a year, and then it looks more green or yellow. The color in the pictures isn't the same as real life, if you have a reflection from the flash. I guess I'm not seeing the eye flash in this picture, but the eyes do look brown to me. I was just wondering if there was an easier way to diagnose blue born.

I do understand the difference between eye color and eye flash/shine. I thought you meant eye color on the blue borns so that is why I posted the pic of Mack. There isn't any eye flash or shine in the pic. Sorry! oops lol

Oh okay, I couldn't see any flash, but I couldn't see much beside brown, it may be my monitor though. I tried enhancing the picture and blowing the eyes up. The only thing I noticed was the nose didn't have a lot of pigment and lack of pigment can affect eye color too.

Yeah, the iris of the eyes are definitely a lighter color - not brown. They sort of look gray on my monitor, but Kendra says they are on the green side.

Okay, I see what you mean, I think it does have something to do with the amount of pigment in the eye. Very interesting though.

This was very interesting to read as I have never heard of this. It now explains a recent picture I took of Riley ( he looks like a alien lol. He has a lid in his mouth which I did get off him)

I love it, what a beautiful shade of green, so according to the theory his coat should be more silky than cottony, is that true with Riley? I love the little tongue hanging out, what a doll!

I have heard the theory about eye shine and coat type. Bentley has always been my little alien pup. He will be 5 months old on the 27th. His hair is starting to really silver out right above his shoulders. So guess that is indicating he will be along that gun metal/blue color and thus silky. At least according to the theory guess he's right on target.

Here is picture I took of my alien Bentley after his bath this past Sunday. Yes I did a little editing of coloring in the picture on instagram, but the darkening of the image only emphasized his spooky green eyes. :eek:

Hope the article is correct my baby Bentleys eyes came out a light green. So far he seems to have silky hair not too many tangles (hes 5 months) the light almost white coat is setting in and yes Im beyond anxious!!

Ha ha that is funny, he's got Yoda eyes. By the way, Yoda is the little yorkie next to the YorkietTalk.com banner.

When I first read that it could take as much as 2 years for their adult coat to show I was excited. Already my Bentley looks so different not only in size, but even more so in coloring. An looking at some of the YT members gif avitars where it shows puppy and adult pictures I see how they can look totally different from when they are puppies.

This is almost like those nesting dolls except when you put them back together. They get bigger and change in overall appearance. This to me is truly one of the high points of watching my baby grow.
