Pet Insurance (what do you think) what do u think about pet insurance |
I think it is important to have because you never know what medical issues will come up. I remember one day randomly my dog tore a cruciate ligament and it cost $2000! Yikes, that was a lot of money. I never thought of getting insurance before, but I am now for the peace of mind in case something like that happens again. |
All 4 of mine have pet plan... Can be pricey, but if you can afford it, it's great to have! |
What pet insurance company you have? |
Insurance I have Trupanion and am very happy with them. I have zero deductible and that makes it more expensive, but they have a sliding scale for deductibles. I got insurance for my adopted boy when he was just over one year old. It is a good idea to start young, before any pre existing conditions. After about six months he developed cataracts and the surgery was around $3,300 per eye!! I am glad I had insurance as I did not expect that to happen in one so young. Good idea to compare carefully all the conditions/prices. |
The name of ours is PetPlan. We have the gold plan with a $100 deductible... There are different plans available. Again, I have 4 insured, so it runs me a little Over $1000 a year.... But just one bad injury or sickness could run thousands! We've only had to use it once so far... But it paid quickly. |

Pet insurance by Trupanion |
what I do on the advise of my vet is take that money that I would spend on the pet insurance and put it in a savings account and then I could use the money as i see fit// they had experience with VPI and she said that the clients who used it had a hard time getting their money// I also have a care credit card which if you pay off in 6 months there is no interest |
I just got VPI and am working on meeting my deductible ($100) so I'm not sure how they are paying claims, I'll keep you posted! |

I thought about putting the money back into savings... But, again, one $3000 illness or disaster would take up 3 years of insurance savings money... In the end, this may have been the better financial choice. I'll let ya know in about 10-15 years! :) |
I have it and wont go with out it. This is the math so far. Taycie turned 3 in March. I have had Taycie on insurance since was was 5 months old. My monthly premium has cost me $1,272 thus far. In those 3 years Trupanion has paid back $5589.46. This is her up to date pay back amount. I just sat and added it all up. For me, there is NO way I could pay off $5589.46 on a credit card/ care credit and then pay it off in a reasonable time so I could use it again. And.. I am on a fixed income.. I really don't know how I could save that amount and then turn around and replenish my savings. I would be in big trouble. So For us.. Insurance is the answer. |
