When should her ears go up? 3 Attachment(s) My yorkie is 15 weeks today, and I have had her since she was 10 weeks. In this entire time her ears have not been up. Once, one of them came up and it was so cute! Should I be worried about this? I had read that sometimes they go down when they are teething and assumed it was because of this, but looking thorugh all these pics you guys post, it seems like everyone else has their ears up!! Thanks for any info! |
I'll leave this up to the breeders, but I know that people tape their dogs ears to help them stand if they aren't on their own. I'm sure someone will post a pic to show you. Your little girl is just beautiful and I love her fluffy fur! Lovely! Good luck - sorry I'm not much help. |
she is so precious, just want to tell you that.. about the ears, give it time, they will eventually go up... |
You can help their ears go up easier, by first clipping the hair off the ears and trim them along the edges. Then if that doesn't work - yes - you can tape them. It helps them to know what they are suppose to do. You can find many sites on the web on how to do this - one such site is owned by Rhapsody: http://www.yorkie.org/dogs/grooming_yorkies.html Best of luck with your baby. He is a cutie! :D T. |
Hope this helps. When I got my yorkie from my breeder, he already had the tape on the inside of his ears. Really all it means is you can take a small piece of duck tape and cut it to fit into the inside of the ear, then make sure you push the hair back away before you put it in there, and leave it there for a few weeks. If you have any more questions, feel free to send me a message. Hope this was of some help. :aimeeyork |
Ears down Ok,my Yorkie is almost a year old and her ears are down. She is large for a yorkie (13 lbs). But I have been hearing lately , that if their ears are down they they are not a purebreed Yorkie , they are mixed with something else. I have papers saying that she is a purebred. should I be worried? thanks, and happy holidays |
Lacey had floppy ears until almost a year old. We took her to the groomer and she got her ears to stand up. |
No don't worry about your dog being a pruebred, People who say stupid things don't know!! I have Lilly who until last week, her ears were down. I have been taping them for a long time. And finally I kept the tape on for a week (instead of the normal 4 days and they stood. Some yorkies have heavier or larger ears and need help to stand. At a year I would say that they will probably always stay down, but that shouldn't stop you from trying, if you want them up. If you want to try PM me and I'll try to help. |
MelAnnDoll your baby is precious I happened to notice you have her in a collar and you might want to read this thread on why it is important to have her in a harness instead of a collar. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...hlight=harness It is also safer and easier if you have to pick her up in a hurry if she is wearing a harness. Enjoy your new baby. |
Got my Yorkie at 8 weeks - ears were up and then they went down - went back up and back down. Finally, I trimmed the hair off around the outside of his ears. Apparently this helped because his ears went back up and have been up every since. Removing any hair from the ears removes weight, and this helps them go back up and stay up. Good luck! Carol Jean |
Ears I agree with the above. Clip the hair on her ears. Check the internet for really great ways to tape her ears..and start trying. You will find it is easy to tape the ears and will be surprised how quickly they stand. Just remember that it may take many many trys to get them to continually stand. Don't get in a rush. My little girl was 5 mo. before hers stood all the time (we started at 10 wks) I worked on a "Rescue Dog" who was about 1 yr old and ears had never stood. It took about a month and up they went. I have been told you want to start early and try to have them standing my 6 mo. for the easiest and best results because it gets harder for them to stand as they get older, but even then it is not impossible. Good luck! (They look so cute with their little ears all taped) |
Cali's ears have always been up but we trim the fur off of them regularly which helps. She is teethin now at 6 months so wil see if they stay up or not. |

Hi: No, it doesn't mean she's mixed, lots of people have Yorkies whose ears never come up. I have a Yorkie whose ears didn't go up until she was 11 months old and that was after many months of taping. There are some Yorkies who ears will never go up no matter what you do.. either way they are still cute. Maybe all they need is a little help, try taping them and see what happens. |
