Our new girl is home
 

My husband and I went out to look at the puppies at the antique shop in Langley, BC, Canada today - oh, look at the time. Actually it was yesterday. I am pretty tired! Angus is on my lap while I type, and he like to rest his head on my left arm. I had written about the proper age to adopt at. Some people said 12 weeks for sure. Others responded with some breeders letting them go at 8 weeks. Well, I know I will hear from many of you - but I got there and found out that she was almost 7 weeks (had gotten her first shots). We brought her home (I know . . . I know. . . ) and tomorrow she will go to our regular vet's for a check up. She is drinking lots of water, and had some goats milk, but she wouldn't eat any food. She slept a lot when we got home, but then got quite playful. Angus did not know what to make of her! She was active for quite a while - drinking but not eating, though. I am keeping a close watch on her. As soon as I figure out how to, I will post pictures of her and of Angus. We don't have a name yet.
Tomorrow I will try pablum and softened kibble. Any other suggestions? I know that they should not go at such a young age. I met the dad (mom was not there). I also saw the other pups, and watched them interact. Going to bed now. I think I'll be up later!!

I hope she's doing well. Make sure you have some Nutrical on hand. There are lots of experienced folks here to help you with your new baby. Good luck! :)

Congrats on your new baby! Matthias didn't eat much when he was brought home to me for the first day or two, and he is over four months old. He is just now starting to chow down. It could be just the adjustment shock, especially from his age. As long as he is drinking plenty of fluids, and you are offering him the food (probably be better to soften it up due to his age), I wouldn't worry about it unless it goes past three days. Then I would consult your vet. But this is just my humble opinion. I've had Matthias here since Sunday night/Monday morning, and he is just now really eating well. You should be taking him to a vet the first week you have him anyway, so be sure to bring it up with the vet then.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do. Just giving you my nickle. (I don't give two cents - I'm worth more! hahahaha)

We brought Rowdy home at 7 weeks (hadn't found YT, didn't know any better), so don't beat yourself up. He didn't eat very well either. I had to give him water softened dry kibbles and also the same type of wet food - can't remember the brand, but it was lamb and rice dry and lamb and rice wet. He didn't eat very much for the first few days, so I gave him nutracal 3 times per day. He didn't eat hard dry kibbles till he was about 3-4 months old (not softened) and to this day (10 months old) he will not eat medium or large sized hard kibbles. I have to give him Solid Gold Wee Bits for small dogs. He still does not eat hard kibbles very well - I supplement with toddler (human) chicken sticks and sometimes cottage cheese. Eating has always been a challenge with him.

Thank you for your replies and welcoming our new baby girl. Angus (who is two - male - "momma's boy". Does not know what to do with her. She is following him around the kitchen wanting to play. Angus always loves to play with other Yorkies (his buddies next door moved recently)but he is backing off from her. He is content to sit and look. We had just gotten her yesterday (she really needs a name!) and I was worrying about everything. This morning she was up at 7:35 a.m. (got up once at 3:30 to use the newspaper). She used the "facilities" again, then tried playing with Angus, who was still curious but not surewhat to do. He is again in my lap while I type! She chowed down her breakfast, even searching out the bits that fell off the plate. It is off to the our vets this morning to be checked out. She walks a bit bow-legged, but maybe that is because of her age. Thank you again. I'll figure our the photo thing today.
