My fiancee and I got a Yorkie puppy last Saturday, and the breeder sent us home with some Panacur (Fenbendazole) dewormer. We were supposed to split the envelope into three servings and give it to her on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesay (Apr 7-9). When I was cleaning the apartment today I found the envelope tucked in the couch cushions and I discovered that we had forgotten to give her the final dose.

My question is this....should I give her the final dose now even though it's about three days late, or should I just let it go? She isn't showing any signs or symptoms of having worms and we are training her to use pee pads, so her outdoor exposure and exposure to other dogs is limited.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Please call your vet's office and let them know what happened and see what they suggest.
It might not be necessary to take it BUT it may be necessary to start all over again.

I would not feel comfortable worming a puppy that way. A new puppy should always go to the vet for a check up. Take a fecal specimen and have the vet check it for worms. There are many kids of intestinal worms and they do not all respond to the same medications. Worming a pup can be stressful so doing it right after going to a new home is not always the best timing.

Yes I agree with the above comments. Please call your vet & explain to them your situation. Chances are that they will want to deworm again. I was told that my pup was given an over the counter dewormer.. My vet wanted to do it over again with a better product, there's no harm to the pup re-doing it. I'm so glad we did do it over again because I could actually see a worm in my puppies stool. So please call your vet & talk w/them. Good luck

May I ask how old your puppy is? That worming SHOULD have already been done by the breeder before you got the puppy. I guess that is just a breeders choice, but I do not like to send new owners home with "medical chores" needing to be done. If you had forgotten what to do and had accidently given the pup the entire envelope, could have had some major problems. FYI: This is not an OTC wormer, vets and breeders use it, ...I am thinking the vet will check the baby for worms and if he is clean, he will forget the final missed dose.
