chicken and rice When you make this for your pups, how do you do it? Do you use white or dark meat? White or brown rice? I wanna try it for Chloe to see if she will eat better. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated. |
Boil one chicken (no onions or salt),cook white or brown rice in chicken broth from chicken (2cps broth one cp rice). In a separate pot cook cut up baby carrots and peas (I use frozen peas),start with a little and see if your baby likes them, you can add more next time if you wish. Cut up about a cp of chicken that you boiled, drk or lite is up to you,I mix. Again you can add more next time. Mix together,I serve approx. 2 or 3 TBL with a bit of kibble on top for breakfast. This will keep for only a few days in the frig. I freeze part of it and take out as needed. I make triple this once a month for 5 dogs. |
I think cooking for you pup is wonderful but if it is their main sours of calories and nutrients be sure you are feeding a diet that meets their needs. I use a recipe I got from the Balance-it web site. The vet is a certified vet nutritionist. I have purchased the supplement to add to the food. Good luck and happy cooking |
I only plan on this being an occasional dinner. If I plan on cooking more and it being the main source, I will definitely get the balance it supplement. Thanks |
I will usually just buy a boneless skinless chicken breast.. boil it and serve. I will also cook a sweet potato and mix it with the chicken instead of using rice. |
You can download a free recipe at www.balanceit.com |
When Teeka was sick, I stopped at a local Chinese restaurant and bought her some steamed rice. I then boiled her a chicken breast tender. She loved it! :) |

Then either rice (usually white) or sweet potato, plus peas, carrots, sweetcorn and green beans. Plus his supplement on top, as it's his 'main meal' of the day :) It's everso scrummy..... :D Sally + Harry x |
Just a reminder about rice they are finding arsenic in it. |

I want to double, triple how important it is to have the correct supplements. Cathy is very knowledgeable about this. I read a story of a pet owner who fed her dog just chicken and rice and how sick that dog became because of a nutritional defencency. In fact his bones became brittle. .. Just like us if we don't eat a variety of foods. My vet is not "pro" homecooking but he does say if you do be sure you get the information from a vet nutritionist. |
