2 questions.. First, what do you use to cut your pups nails? With Carley, I use regular dog nail clippers. But with Joey the breeder suggested cat nail scissors, and they work well with his tiny nails and are easier to manage for me. Second, How do you get your dog to stop barking? We are watching my MIL dog, while shes taking care of personal matters. Hes been here a couple weeks and he wont shut up! My dogs dont really bark, Joey does if he thinks he hears something...Carley only when there is someone here and she doesnt know them. So I have the same set-up for both little ones (hes also a yorkie), and I try to ignore him if hes barking, but he will literally just run around barking. Please help! |

I was thinking about letting Carley get the nail grinding because her nails make me more nervous to trim. Shes got black nails and they used to be really short (when she was younger) but now are long, even though I cut them where the split is underneath. |
I love the pedi paws drill thing...my dogs do better than with cut type trimmers. As for barking we tried i only have one barker and we tried the water bottle...no luck...we just accept he barks alot :( |
We used the pedi paws on Callie because I am to chicken to cut them. I also am a big fan of a water bottle. |
As for the nails we use some tiny cat claw cutter to trim Gracie's nails. I have someone hold her while I cut. With warm weather coming I will be getting the dremel out again. After cutting the nail we round it off so if she puts her nails on our legs it does not feel like we are being cut with the sharp points. We just don't have a real barking problem. Not that she does not enjoy barking but she does know what "no" means. If she gets carried away while she is playing I will tell her "enough!" and that usually stops it. If not we go to "No!" and then "sit!." I have heard of spraying with water and all the rest but teaching your dog some basic commands is just so much easier in the long run. |
I use the cat claw scissors on Princess Sophie. I want her nails to stay short so I try to trim them every two weeks. I don't want to hear her nails on the floor. We have hard wood floors and so that is an issue here. I like the cat claw scissors because I find them very easy to manage. That little extra finger grip really help and I'm not nervous to use them and Sophie doesn't seem to mind either. |

I am so afraid of cutting Galen's nails. The vet cut them. I don't know why I am so afraid. I cut four cats nails all the time lol |
When you use the water bottle, say "NO!" It won't take long, and all you will have to do is pick up the water bottle while you say "NO!" Then before you know it, you won't even need the water bottle at all, just the word "NO!" will suffice. |
Rebecca - I have a dog that barks a lot. It's not Mandie. lol He's 3 1/2 years old and I've tried the rattling can, the squirting, the no til he foams in the mouth holding himself back. I have yet to figure out how to make him stop. Yes, I know that means he owns me. It is what it is... |
