He is still a cutie. We have all had a bad cut but it will grow back. I am trying to figure if I should cut Galen's hair for the summer or just let it grow. I love the long coats. I want him comfortable in the summer though |
How do we pick a good groomer? I don't know anyone locally that has their dogs groomed, so I'm at a loss. Jasper is 13 weeks old and I don't plan on having it cut anytime soon. But, I do want to be prepared. |

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but I didn't know the answer either...still don't...yet both groomers I have ever taken a pet to have been good. The first worked at a Vet's office...she was great...trimmed horrible mats of my kitty with no distress to the kitty. For Brody, I 'googled' and read, then happened to see a doggie shop...which was a groomer in addition to a retail shop. I went there quite a few times and watched, and saw her interact with the dogs, and interacted with her, and was comfortable with her before she ever trimmed him. I was not disappointed at any time either Brody or Mia have been there...so far, at least. But, I talked to her and we discussed 'how I wanted my Yorkie (Brody) to look'...and she got pictures off the internet that sounded like what she thought I wanted...and it was the same picture I had found...lol...so, before she lifted a finger or a clipper, she KNEW what I wanted her to do. I think sometimes a 'bad grooming' can just be a misunderstanding or lack of details of the expected result...not always incompetence, inexperience, and/or just doing what the groomer wants instead of what the owner has agreed to or asked to have done...none of which matters when the cut is over and especially if the shock value is huge. :p:D |

LOL I think Peanut is adorable, and I think other people must like that cut, too. I see more short cut Yorkies than long haired ones...of course, this is Florida...lol. Just last weekend I was at PetSmart and their grooming salon is between the registers and the parking lot so you can see the dogs being groomed through the glass on your way out. They were clipping two (2) Yorkies...both very much like Peanut's cut. :D |

Also I never said 'so freezing' I said freezing. It's a common word here, for cold. I wasn't trying to deliberately use hyperbole. Like he will freeze to death. On that note, why would people get 'summer cuts'? If they thought the coat didn't provide much warmth naturally? Why bother cutting it all? |

With so many BYB yorkies out there now.... very few yorkies I see with a long coat actually look 'good' IMO (Maximo's pups come to mind- gorgeous!!! And Razzle and Joey). Most look ratty to me though. I personally like most yorkies better shorter. That would be like if I saw a pic of your dog and said her hair cut is truly appalling... it's just a little offensive. But I know you weren't purposely trying to upset ppl, it just kinda rubbed me the wrong way. |

And people get summer cuts because usually dogs are out and about more in the summer and it's easier maintenance. I know my active dog (who is in mud, pool water, dirt, and grass, etc every day) would never tolerate the brushing and maintenance that comes along with a long coat. It would almost be cruel for him to deal with, unless I was putting him in wraps, which I would just never do or take the time to. Yorkies do not have an undercoat, at all. So their hair will keep them as warm as the hair on our own heads keep us. Not much. |

Well you kind of rub me the wrong way, with misquoting me, in regards to the freezing statement. I was actually more disgusted with the groomer, because she hadn't done the cut properly, by the sounds of things. And makes me wonder how many groomers are just out there are just in it to make a quick buck? He is a cute pup, and yes short-cuts are nice, don't get me wrong. But I was being honest, and the OP, wasn't so sure they liked it by the sound of things. I'm not going to sugar coat it. Gorgeous yorkie. Yes. 100 %. But groomer screwed up. Because the client is not happy. |

Jasper's hair right is fine for me to care for, at the moment. It's probably never gonna be super long. Or show dog material, with the rice paper. It's easy enough to brush, when you are consistent. And I don't find it cruel. |
