How did you feel before you got your puppies/dogs? This is going to be my first puppy ever and I am beyond excited. I think and talk about my baby 24/7 and he's not even here. I have one month left of school for this semester (college) and I find that I spend more time researching things about puppies and watching puppy videos. I'm getting him mid May and I can't wait till he's here. So I wanted you all to share how did/do you feel right before you get a dog? Do you plan every little detail in advanced are you more patient and relaxed about it? Seriously I will try to find a question to ask my breeder just so I can email her and she can tell me more about my baby. :) |
I could have written that myself! I've spent the last hour doing research on new puppies when I should be doing housework! When is yours arriving? Have you picked a name yet? |
I get he may 3rd and me and my fiancé constantly are watching YouTube videos of yorkie puppies and reading training info and buying A LOTof stuff lol |
I was super excited as well. I've only had my baby for a few weeks now. I planned everything, watched YouTube videos, did my research, talked to many ppl. The lady I bought her from was nice enough to send me pics almost daily w/progress reports.. I was suppose to pick her up at 8 weeks but I received an unexpected message saying she was ready to go earlier..so fortunately I almost had everything I needed. My only advice would be make sure you have a good vet picked out and make sure to have her checked out right away. Just to be on the safe side. Good luck & post lots of pics of your baby! I'm excited for you :) |
Actually, I don't remember given it was almost 70 years ago. But, I'm pretty sure I was excited like you. I do remember it was a Heinz 57 male, which I named Blackey, since it was all black. I have since become a little more creative with naming them. That was probably the most forgiving and loyal Dog ever, and that is probably what set me on a life of appreciation for Dogs. As you grow to know them, you'll be amazed at how intuitive they can be. They're a pain in the tush sometimes, but, I'll never be without their companionship...ever. |
I was also pretty excited about getting my little girl. I had put down my long time four legged friend several months before I got Gracie and I was never going to have another dog. After trying to live for several months without a dog I went into severe withdrawals. I started looking for a small dog to adopt from a shelter but could not find one. I found my girl at the vet's office while taking a cat in for a visit. Never anticipated getting a puppy but one look at that little face was it. Then I had the waiting until she was ready to go. It is an exciting time. It's good you are reading up on the breed. I can only say that I found terriers are a much different breed than other dogs. I had no idea the challenges that this would present. I am more than thrilled with my little girl and don't think I will ever have any other breed after growing to love her quirky ways. I hope you love all your future experiences with your new baby. |
Its an excited time for you right now. I was anxious counting down the days. Busy researching, finding this forum and buying things like crazy |
I was not as smart as you. I did research a little as to how Yorkies' demeanors are and how hard they are to groom, but I didn't really research about how to get them from good breeders and the health problems related with NOT getting them from good breeders and how they tend to have issues with their teeth, etc. I only did THAT after I got her (the day after - that is when I found this wonderful forum). So, with that said, had wanted a Yorkie for several years and had to wait for the right time to get another dog. So I was excited when I knew I could do it. But I didn't have a long wait between that time and the time I found Mandie because I didn't do the smart thing and look for a reputable breeder and wait for a puppy to be born. I found one on Craigslist that was already 4 1/2 months old and the owners didn't "have time for her" because of work schedule changes. I am pretty sure that is not the real reason since they had another Yorkie that was only 1 month older. Anyway, I digress. I found her on Craigslist and within 2 days, I had her. No prep, no research, nothing. You have NO IDEA how very happy and blessed I felt when I found YT the very next day! :) |
My first puppy was a pound puppy Aussie mix, at 12 years old now he is still my special boy and I spoiled him, he is my lap dog who weighs 90 lbs. I thinks there is special connection with your first. I love my little man teddy, but jack will always be my first. And now I am awaiting another puppy so teddy can have a playmate. 12 year old dogs don't play much. |
Omg, I was absolutely obsessive! I lurked around these boards for months, bought books, watched videos, bought stuff, stuff, and more stuff. I pestered and near harrassed the breeder with questions and requests for pictures. And I talked puppies. Constantly. DH was ready to muzzle ME. Even my mom, who I inherited my love of Yorkies from, told me I was obsessing. What she didn't know was that I was buying two of everything! On top of my own excitement of having another fur baby after almost 5 years, I got to surprise Mom with her own precious baby girl. |
