Worms! Yuck! 1 Attachment(s) Hi guys! My poor Tinkerbell was given to me with worms. The lady I bought her from never got her her shots or dewormer. The picture I have attached on the left is when I first got her at 8 weeks. I took her in and had her dewormed and her shots, but some how it didn't get rid of the worms. I took her back to the vet and we have finally got rid of them. Woooo-hoo! However my question now is, do you think thats the reason for her not so thick, fluffy coat anymore? (Right picture, 16 weeks) All the worms have been gone for a week now and I was wondering if it had anything to do with her dull coat now. There's hardly any fur on her legs and paws! |
I think she looks great in the left picture, but the right picture scares me, that looks like a malnourished dog. Worms can prevent the dog from getting proper nourishment it wouldn't be surprising that this would happen. As long as the picture on the left is the "after" picture, I think your baby is going to be okay. Some breeders save money by selling the dogs too early, minimum should be 12 weeks, and it’s obvious she tried to save money by not treating them or the mother for worms. I would not buy another dog from her if I were you, but best of luck with Tinkerbell, you're doing a great job! If for some reason, the pictures are reversed, I would ask my vet about it. |
I agree with Nancy! The right ones looks malnourished......do you have the pictures turned around? |

If not, first thing I would do is talk to your vet about some vitamin supplements, make sure you feed the correct amount of puppy food so she gets the calories she needs, and get some Nutri-cal and give her a little bit a few times a day. If she is malnourished, as Nancy has stated, that would definitely explain her coat issues. Definitely look into getting her nutrition back in order now that those worms are gone. ETA: And get this done asap. That little one is not going to survive (they go downhill super fast) if you dont' get her nourished. Your vet should have said something without you asking - I might would find another vet if he/she didn't |
Sorry! I mixed them up! The left picture is when she was 8 weeks and the right is now. She goes into the vet for her next shot in a couple of days so hopefully the vet can figure out what to do. I'm so scared for my baby. |
Oh and my vet did prescribe her with probiotic. However, she still looks the same and I've given her all the doses the vet has given me. |

Having worms can really do number on their system and after they are gotten rid it can take awhile for her body to adjust. Just make she sure she is eating a good food. Make sure she is as healthy as can before she get's her Vac's. |
Oh that poor little baby. She is going down hill fast. I would hold off giving her shots or medications till she is healthy and has put more weight on. I wonder why the Vet. hasn't picked up on her condition!! Start feeding her real food, such a med. rare steak (cut up very tiny) mixed with Quinoa that's cooked in beef broth, and steamed carrots and green beans. Buy some MEG-A-CAL Thomas Labs Meg-A-Cal | Revival Animal Health This is even better than Nutri-Cal and is what I had to give one of mine because she was off to a really bad start too. |

I have been feeding her Iams since I got her. She still is small and has a big appetite, but her little body and coat doesn't look so good. She is full of energy and still has the same energetic personality, but I'm just scared because I've never experienced worms in any of my dogs. When the vet gave her a dewormer pill for round worm and tape worm, about an hour later she pooped out tons of long worms. So many worms! I couldn't believe there were so many in her 2 pound body. |

We are not trying to scare you and I know we probably are. I can only tell you what I would be thinking and doing if this was my Mandie. I would be very concerned and do what everyone is saying about getting her some good nutritious foods. I would definitely not give shots until she seemed healthy because the shots are hard on their system. |
The vet gave me 4 dewormer pills. I gave her one, once a week. |
