One dog takes Interceptor or Swntinel. The other takes Heartgard. Now that Interceptor is discontinued and the Sentinel price has been dropped the first dog will stay on Sentinel and the second may be switched to it. Fleas should not be a major problem for dogs taking Sentinel, but if they are I would give Frintline or Advantage as needed. This is if ticks are not a concern. |
Ok... so reading on other forums, someone is saying that Interceptor is NOT being discontinued. Everyone that's contacted Novartis says the reps claims Interceptor isn't coming back. In this other forum, the lady claims she works for Novartis and it is coming back. This is what was posted: "Wife of xxxxx: I work for Novartis, Interceptor will come back, but it's been prioritized with the entire production lines from the plant. I also happen to raise Australian Shepherds and have contacted management with the plant directly. The Interceptor Spectrum (with only a tapeworm medicine added) can still be purchased from Australia. Sentinel was prioritized since it had the medication for heartworm in it and a flea lifecycle medication. I have heard it is back to being shipped and released so should be available soon. Keep writing letters, it's a great idea. I'll go back and talk with the division again and see what I can do. It IS on the schedule to come back. As far as I know it has NOT been removed from their portfolio." The site for the post is at: It's Official, Interceptor isn't coming back On another note, I've read that some ppl were using Interceptor Spectrum from Australia and was working well. Any thoughts??? |
Cali weights 3 lbs 14 oz and uses Revolution. That was what her vet recommended. We have never had a flea problem and she is out in the yard a great deal. I did hear that fleas were supposed to be a bigger problem this year. Don't remember why though. |

Columbo uses Front line for ticks and fleas. (Never had an issue with fleas, but ticks are bad here) |
I am using frontline. We have deer so the deer ticks can be a real problem. |
We use Heartguard Plus and am happy with it. I had been using Interceptor but wasn't planning on going back anyway (Jackson ended up really liking the Heartguard chew, he takes it like a treat, and it's cheaper, and easier to feed than a pill). We use K9 Advantix for ticks/fleas on an as-needed basis. Our problem is more with ticks, but even so, sometimes I won't see a lot, if any, so I just don't put any meds on him. I prefer to avoid them when I can. Never seen a flea. |

She doesn't trust Revolution because there seems to be (comparatively) a lot of reports of ineffect with it. That really goes for fleas but also heartworm. A lot of vets in her area don't even carry it. As for tick protection, it does not cover Lyme ticks. She just thinks there are better alternatives. |

Anyone have experience with Interceptor Spectrum? Also... is it overkill to use sentinel with advantix II? No problem with fleas but ticks could be an issue... I found this petition while googling for updates in hopes Novartis would change their minds about discontinuing interceptor. -_-; Don't know how much good this will do... http://www.change.org/petitions/nova...he-ingredients |
