How to get my yorkie to stop running! Well Jess is at the end of crate confinement for her leg and now starting the 10 weeks of rehab. Problem is she feels good and wants to run!! and jump! which is a nono..if we open her crate she is off and zooming. In the morning she is ms. wiggles everywhere to get down. I constantly have to grab her and put her back in the crate to slow down. her leg seems great but Im afraid of her re-injuring from the break. She literally runs her legs in the air like a motorboat in the morning if you pick her up. Its all the energy! I dont know what to do to calm her...she jumps on a short leash! tries to bite it.. |
Have you thought of tethering her to you |
tried that..she jumps all over me..Ive done the down command and treated but hse just gets so full of energy and she just wants to run so bad..... |
How about out of the crate into a play pen with a pee pad in it? I know you are worrying a lot and don't want her to hurt herself. |
I was going to suggest an xpen, but if she is jumping on the leash, she will probably jump in the pen. A pup with pent up energy is a big challenge. |
she has a crate thats five feet long..she runs around that...this dog can stand on her hind legs for minutes..I call her barisnikov! We have to take her out but yikes she is sooo fast...i dont want to have to tranqulize ehr again (doesnt really work anyway, the surgeon told me eventually their livers just process it right through) I cant even get the leash on her she is like a crazy maniac let out of prison. I cant blame her though..i took her outside for five minutes on a short lease and she was jumping arond like a mexican jumping bean.."In you go" |
I have no suggestion. I can totally feel for you though. I can't blame her at all. She's been such a trooper while being crated and healing. I'll just pray that she doesn't re-injure because I just don't see how you are going to keep her from jumping and wanting to run. Heck, my Mandie isn't even ever crated and some days I can't catch her. Yorkies are so friggin fiesty and fast! lol |
Maybe try letting her swim in the tub, might help to burn some of that energy and protect and exercise that leg. |
I put her in the tub with the girls and she was thrashing like mad..I may try it again with just a little less water.. |
