Having an issue with poop stuck to Bella's bottom.. Bella's only six weeks old and I'm having an issue w/some dried poop stuck in some fur near her bum. I've tried to get it out but I'm having no luck.. I want to cut it out of her fur but her fur isn't that long..and I'm afraid I'll cut her by accident. It's frustrating her when she has to go and also after she goes.. She can feel it there and I think it's confusing her where she thinks she has to go more, lol but she doesn't. She will just sit it the "pooing" pose for such a long time...with nothing coming out lol. And I think it's cause she can feel it. Then she will drag her bum across the carpet.. Also when she does poo, that new poo is getting on that clump of fur and its just a mess. :thumbdown My vet said to not give her a bath because she's to young, it will lower her body temp. I've tried to use wipes but that's not working. I know this might seem like a funny post...but I wanna help her. Thanks everyone & Happy Easter! :animal-pa. :aimeeyork. :) |
I had this problem also with hazel but she was much older than your bella, I never had a 6wk old puppy so I do not know the do's and donts I know with hazel at 6months I gave her a sanitary trim used a comb close to her skin and cut the hair coming up between the teeth this way the scissors didnt come in direct contact with her skin. But like I said before I dont think I'd risk it with such a young pup, maybe other members will have suggestions. |
If you don't want to give her a full-on bath, just try washing that specific area. Apply enough water and a bit of puppy shampoo to the area so you can clean the area good enough. For trimming the area just get her really calm/half asleep in lap and trim her, or have someone trim her bottom while you hold her. |
Sorry to be a little blunt about this, but... You really don't have a choice ! Her carrying debris on her and around the house is unacceptable. Her hair will grow back ! Use Scissors or an Electric Clipper and make a "poop slot" back there for her. Don't forget to take a little hair off under her tail as well, but don't cut it too short, it gets "prickly". I have this problem (x3) during the winter months every year, when I let my guys coats grow out. |
I trim both mine around their bottom just the very small area. The longer hair covers it and they don't get stragglers. |

Plus I always use those round-ended baby scissors for doing round Harry's 'delicate parts'!!!! I know others use clippers, it's whatever works best for your little one. Good luck! Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
I have had this to happen and instead of a full bath i held their little butts under the faucet with nice warm water and a bit of shampoo until it is clean..make sure to dry her really good. keeping her warm is the key word for a young pup |
I agree warm water and some puppy shampoo. And the little bum needs trimming |

I also keep my baby sanitary cut, it is almost necessary in my case because Sophie Kate does not like anything around that area at all (including people cutting). I do while she is sleeping and just snip away as much as I can before she wakes up. I also wipe her little booty with a baby wipe when we come back in from a walk (another thing she does not enjoy but is necessary). |
I know it's hard on your and scary. Mandie is a wiggle worm. It took forever for me to figure out the best time to do things - that is when she is almost asleep (as mentioned above). Definitely try warm water and some shampoo to work it out. If that doesn't work, get BLUNT nose scissors (wait til Bella is almost asleep) and trim the poo out. Also, use this time to trim up directly under the tail and all around the anus. I also wanted to ask what you are feeding little 6 week old, Bella? You say that sometimes she looks like she is trying to poo but nothing comes out? Is she constipated? At 6 weeks, it's very important for their diet to be easy to eat and very nutritional. I would mention this problem to my vet - see if there is something you can change or add to help Bella "go" easier. |
I use my Wahl P'nut clippers, small, kinda quiet....I put my finger tip on top of babys rectum, so I dont get it in the clippers,,,,and I clip away from the rectum, out....I do that all the way around the tiny rectum. Now I saw a term on here several weeks ago that REALLY struck home with me, because THAT IS WHAT I HAVE RUNNING LOOSE!!!!! BABOON BUTTS!!!! My ladies and gentlemen, as well as any of my "pets", are not fashionestas, so they could care less if their butts are bare.....I do have several that go nuts if they get dingle berries, so I think everyone actually welcomes their clean shaven butts, dingle berry free! |
Youtube might have a video that will show you how to trim or shave her little bottom. When Callie was a puppy she had bad diarrhea and was really sick so we had to use baby wipes a lot on her little bottom. |
