Two Questions: Licking and Grass Good evening everyone. Two questions this evening: 1) This is the first year with Sabu and now Julie that we have some turf missing due to the drought last summer. Should I have any concerns for either Sabu or Julie with the grass seedlings on the ground? 2) Several questions: Julie LOVES to lick my ears and especially my nostrils. I think if she could get her tongue all the way inside my nose, she'd be pleased as punch. Is this a a puppy or a shih tzu thing? Why does she insist on doing this? Is this something I should prevent her from doing? Thank you. Starlette |
1st question I honestly cant answer as my crew rarely go outdoors where there is grass/dirt.... 2nd question.... we have a yorkie/shih tzu mix. She does the same thing and is a tiny 2 pound girl with a tiny tiny tongue!! She loves your nose and nostrils! We do discourage her from licking inside nostrils as this is just plain nasty, lol!! Can you imagine the germs they can pick up from human noses??? So, yes...on the nose kisses are just fine...but, in the nose kisses...no no!!! ps...welcome to YT!! |
Can't help with number 1 but number two I think is a personal preference. We have plenty of members who don't mind the licking while some members don't. I personally don't let Brandi lick me other than the tip of my nose only because of some of things I've seen her eat like her poop, the cat's poop, her vomit and the cat's hairball vomit.....ewwww. I do remember this one time as I was licking my lips, Brandi lick me right on my tongue....talk about perfect timing. she gave me a big ole sloppy french kiss......boy was I grossed out. i think as long as they know who to lick (meaning not letting her lick anyone and everyone whenever she wants) I don't see a problem with it. |
Thank you Kendra. There was blip on the radio commuting from home to work talking about who had the best/worst mouth: Cat, Dog or Human. This is what they showed: Dog (Best) Cat (2nd) Human (Worst) *shrugs* I've never forgotten. Leads me to wonder if a dog can eat poop, lick itself and chow his/her own vomit and still be considered the best mouth, I have to wonder what we humans put in ours that our mouths are considered the worst? :scratchhe |

I suppose what I'm asking aside from do I or don't I allow this behavior is why are they so insistent on licking our face, nose and ears? Sabu has rarely exhibited this type of behavior. On the other hand, Julie LOVES to lick/kiss my ears, mouth, nose and inside nostrils (especially inside the nostrils). Starlette |
My pom used to try to lick my face as pup never let him do too much. When he was older it was only if I asked for a kiss and do so on my cheek. My pup draco licks everything, he's nearly 10 weeks so I think it's mainly out of curiosity. Though he does particulary love to try and like my nose, mouth, ears. My guess is mouth has leftover smells from food or something. And I've read dogs lick us in general because we taste like salt, and well boogers and all our nose stuff is extra salty. And as fars ears, well I suppose it could be a smell they can sense even if your ears are clean, but read it's also a sign of submission, and all licking seems to be a sign of affection. |
Usually they say do not walk on a seeded area until you have mowed it three or four times |
