First time posting - doxepin for Yorkie Hi - this is my first time posting. My dog, Max, is getting up in years (he's about 13 now) and is having anxiety problems. I have tried chamomile tea (soaking his treats in it) which he loves and calming treats but he is now getting up several times each night thinking it's time for breakfast. He starts getting agitated about 4:00 pm. I have taken him to the vet and the vet thinks he might have thyroid problems which I will discuss the blood test result Monday or Tuesday with the vet. I have read that doxepin is good for dogs with anxiety and wonder if anyone has any experience they would like to share. I am very leery of xanax or prosac but understand doxepin is less likely to have side effects. Thanks for any advice! |
BUMP. Sorry no advice hoping someone with medical information can give you some help. |
One of our elderly dogs began pacing and acting panicy in the middle of the night. We discovered that he was in pain, his hips and knees hurt. He was given Tramadol and this helped alot. I always gave him a snack at bedtime with the meds. This started when he was 13 and he lived to be over 15. Hope that you find the answers that you are looking for. |
I don't have any experience with any of this. I just wanted to chime in and say that I know this is anxiety on YOU, too. Hugs! I definitely would rule out pain, but if that HAS been, I hope the doc can get something to help Max settle down. Please update us on the thyroid tests, k? :) |
Thanks for the suppor!t Thanks for the support! Will keep you posted. |
My little girl starting pacing at night. We thought it was from the gas bubbles she had in her stomach due to too much air taken in because of problems with collapsing trachea. A year later we discovered it was the beginning of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction, and it was a symptom of dementia. She began taking Anipryl, and it helped her anxiety a great deal. Ashley was older than your little one. She was almost sixteen when the subtle sysmpoms began, and she passed away right before her seventeenth birthday. I hope the Doxepin helps Max. |
