Update on Pistol Thank you everyone so much for your prayers and encouragement. I worried myself sick for no reason. Well I guess losing my first yorkie under anesthesia was my reason but, he did great. His pre op blood work was perfect and he had had no problems with the anesthesia. He was pretty lethargic last night though. He had his dental and shots while he was under also. He was allowed soft food this morning and ate just fine. He has some significant bruising in the area. I was told he would and that it was normal. So far I have only caught him licking the area once and when I told him not to do that he quit. Still being a quiet little boy this morning I wonder how long that will last. He has not needed to be crated yet to keep him from jumping and running around. I have kept him and Jazzy separated since they play so hard together. I probably won't let them together again until his stitches are all dissolved. I would have preferred they use regular sutures, but that was one question I forgot to ask, and I ask ALOT of questions. Thank you again for your prayers, they meant a lot to me. |
Glad to hear your kiddo is doing so well!! And no worries, there really can be significant bruising to all surrounding tissues, it's just damage to the local tissues and pooled blood...it will go away with time. If you see signs of pain, definitely give the pain meds. I gave pain meds preventively so that they didn't have pain. |
Happy to hear Pistol is doing well. If he starts bothering his stitches, you might want to get a baby Onesie for him. Don't cut it but leave the snaps open and it will help take his mind off the stitches. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your baby. |
so glad pistol did well he well. thanks for updating us. |
Oh yay! Im so glad that hes doing well. Are you giving him pain meds? That could be why hes still tired and sleepy. |
Once you loose a baby during any procedure, or under anesthesia, that is a horrific fear you will never get over....your worry about little Pistol is totally understandable! I am so happy everything went so well! Now, just keep him relaxed and quiet...he probably will be for a day post op, then he will start to push the envelop with his activity...while he does not have to be kept "bedridden", you dont really want him tearing and running and jumping around! He will be wanting to live up to his name...a little pistol!!! |
Worry is Normal [QUOTE=Yorkiemom1;4174239]Once you loose a baby during any procedure, or under anesthesia, that is a horrific fear you will never get over....your worry about little Pistol is totally understandable! I am so happy everything went so well!" I just wrote a rather long post titled Mommy Melt Down. Many of us old time posters try to give good information and support when a dog needs surgery. It is a scary. I don't care how routine things seem, when it is your Yorkie,(child, spouse, parent, friend) Going under anesthesia does have a risk. So we would be uninformed if we didn't feel some worry. Yorkie Talk is the right place to come , we really do understand. Hugs |
Thanks everyone. I do believe it's the pain meds making him drowsy. He is doing well though and I am much better now too. |
I'm so glad to hear that Pistol's neuter went well. Thank you for updating us :) |
