Lizzy is being sassy!!! If I see a pee spot on the floor I will bring Lizzy to it and I will ask "Lizzy did you do this?" and she will look at me and bark several times and run from me...the stinker does it in such a way that it seems she is saying something not so nice to me. like "ya I did..so what!" or " stop asking me that...am I the only dog in the house?" or " why don't you ask the cats?" She has no remorse....she really thinks she can do no wrong. She prances around here with her head held high like she is a princess ( well she really is but she doesn't need to know that) The other day I scolded her for being sassy and she ran up to me and bite me and took off running...(she really can't do any harm cause she is missing her front teeth due to the cleft pallatte). She is sooo sassy....How can I bring her down a notch....last night she was in 3 time outs...she is really a high strung dog...I think she knows she is a special needs dog and is trying to use it to her advantage...what to do!! |
Ha Ha She's got your number, alright! But what's wrong with being sassy? Would you love her as much if she just laid around and didn't do anything? Probably what we all love the most is the spunky and, yes, sassy aspect of our Yorkies. I know it can get tiring some times, but we wouldn't be Yorkie lovers if we wanted a pet to just "be there" and not have any personality. Oh, and as far as what to do....I have no idea. Just put up with it, I guess. :D  :D |
LOL, that's funny. I'm not much help, I have a sass mouth here too. He is particularly sassy if I don't hand the treat over quickly enough after a command....I think he's saying..."look, I'm down, give me the d-mn treat already". Makes me laugh. He'll also scold people who come in the house that don't immediately aknowledge his presence....but he doesn't bark...he howls at them. Now that tiny howl is a riot |
LOL too funny, Sorry no help form here, Princess is the Queen of this Home, she puts me in my place! I always give in. :D |

I would love her no matter what she did however I think she does need to respect me as her human mother and right now she needs to learn who the boss is...( yeah I know.....she is so darn cute that she will be the boss...but I don't need her to know that) If my kids acted that way they would be grounded to their room until they turned 18. I'm already in trouble with the kids because they say she gets away with murder.....she doesnt feel bad about anything.....she doesn't really care if she poops or pees on the floor...and that is going to mean trouble for me. But nothing she does will make me love her anyless. I just need to take control of this little monster.....is that possible?? |
Yup it's possible... But you have to really WANT to be in control! If you let her be the Alpha, she will be, not a problem. If you want it to be you, then you have some work to do! Folks will suggest things like you eat first, then feed the pup, you go through doors first, then don't let her without permission, things like that. The training thread would give you a ton of help. You can read there for days. The main thing is reward, praise, reward, praise for good behavior. That works for me! GOOD LUCK!! :D |
The only answer I have is to take her out more often????? :D I wonder, though, if it isn't just her age. Who knows? Yorkies can sometimes be so bratty and at other times be so sweet. :p Maybe next time you find a spot go get the cleaner and try lecturing her while you are cleaning it up. Let her see that you have to clean it up. None of mine (knock on wood) have ever been biters except when they were little puppies biting at me. After they left their puppyhood, they never bit at all. |
when I came home today there was poop on the living room floor and when I was cleaning it she came up next to me and barked at me while I was cleaning the spot...I was lecturing her the entire time and she would actually listen to me and when I would stop talking she would start barking again...like she was lecturing ME..."why were you gone so long....next time be home sooner....take me with you next time...." She does know how to use the potty pad...when we are sitting in the living room she will use it...its not so much the accidents...its her sassy way of handling being naughty....(she really is cute...even when she is lecturing me.....and I really try not to let her know it) |
I think yorkies like her are a lot of fun. They are very spirited and I think very smart. JMO though. :D |
How old is she? Two of my pups are 7 months old and have started getting sassy this month....like they are in their teenage stage. Mavrick will tell me off if I get mad at Mercedes for peeing on the floor. He acts like "Hey, YOU have NO right to tell her where or where NOT to pee!" |
She was born about mid-September, I believe. |
She has no remorse....she really thinks she can do no wrong. Well, I gotta tell ya, the behaviorists say that no dog feels remorse. A dog who hangs his head, ducks his tail, and slinks away is simply trying to avoid punishment. In light of that, I'd say that she isn't afraid of you, plain and simple. BUT, do you really want her to be???? I don't. I don't want a relationship with my pup that's based on fear. As far as the barking, I expect she interprets your lectures as a human attempt at barking, so she barks, too. From what you've said so far, I think she has a potty training issue but I haven't read anything that makes me think she needs to be "taken down a notch". What was she in time-out for? |

No No....i definitely do not want her afraid of...I'm not trying to insert fear but I am trying to teach her some respect...she does need to listen and yes she is quite young.... 14 weeks....she is sooo different than her mother...she is very spunky and yes alot of fun but that fun can turn into a mean streak...she really gets carried away....as far as the potty training issue.... yes she has a long way to go but when we are with her she does use the potty pad....no accidents at night....goes straight outside when she wakes up in the morning and it has been 20 below windchills lately in the morning.... I just don't want a sassy puppy turning into a sassy dog.... |
....and if you ask me, you are EXACTLY right!!!!!!  |
thank you... |
