Hi Crysta, I think it's great that you want to get a new fur baby. They certainly won't replace Lucy but will fill a void that you fill in your heart. I have experience with both kinds of hernias. My sister's little Lily had the abdominal hernias (in fact she had 2...one on each side of her abdomen) and had them corrected when she was spayed. The vet advised my sis not to breed since it was hereditary. Now my Paisley had the umbilical hernia which fixed itself since it was tiny and our vet said that she could be breed and that the umbilical hernia was not hereditary. We knew Paisley had the hernia when we purchased her and if we had been told that we could not breed, she would have been spayed. I think the breeder can be trusted since she was honest and gave you that information. Good Luck and God bless you as you search for your new little furry one. |

First of all I'm so sorry for your loss. As to getting another puppy so soon, only you and your husband know when it is right to get another one. It is totally up to you. I'm sorry I'm no help whatsoever about the hernia. I had one repaired on my lab when she was spayed but she was almost 4 years old at the time. My only suggestion to you is to call your vet and get their advice and see what they think if she may have any problems from the surgery. Good luck and please keep us posted. |
Good luck to you in your search....if it were me I would not wait either. |
I am sorry for the loss of your puppy. We had to put one of our dogs to sleep, and it felt like my whole world was comming to an end. Our pain was eased by the delivery of our puppies (they were a week early) but the pain was still there, and still is. You are right, you will never be able to replace your puppy- but there is a lot of room in our hearts for other puppies... |
hernia Hernia's are quite easy to repair as a rule..and cause to no future problems...but it is best not to breed a female who has had a hernia repaired. JMO |
It sounds like you have some excellent advise here....wish I could add to them but I can't comment of something I have no knowlege of....so I just want to say I'm very sorry for your loss... :( |
