Watery Eye Oscar has one eye that has been watering for a day now. Last time he was at the groomers they SHAVED his snout!!! Its been a couple months since he had his hair cut, the hair around his eyes is getting somewhat long and keeps getting into only one of his eyes. Yesterday thats what I figured was causing his eye to water. But today when I gave him a bath I noticed he has drainage coming out of his eye and its kinda swollen. Do you guys think this could be caused by his hair constantly getting in his eye?? He's constanly rubbing his face on the carpet, so that makes me think it itches, and may not be a hair problem at all. I don't know how to keep the hair from getting in his eyes other than trimming it down... Any suggestions? If his eye is still swollen when I get home I'm going to call the vet |
Maybe it's itchy from allergies and he's hurt it digging at it? Yumi had some trouble with one of her eyes recently mostly a lot of watering and itching her face. the vet said her eye looked good and ended up giving her a shot for allergies. |
How is Oscar today? If his eye is still swollen and watery, I would definitely take him to the vet. Could be a little inflammation or could be a scratch. The vet can do a quick stain of the eye and will probably give you drops. Max has a lot of eye experience. To keep the hair out of his eyes, you can use a tiny bit of Vaseline as a gel while his hair grows out. |
I would have his eye checked by a vet asap. I have had two dogs who had watery eyes and it turned out in both cases they had eye Ulcers ! the first time I put it off (I thought it was algeries or maybe soap from the groomer etc) so by the time I did take him to the vet it was close to being serious! if I had not had his eyes checked he could have either lost vision or the eye, as it is he has a spot that clouds his vision and will always be there. The puppy went in fast because of my past experence.. I am gald I did! I am very sure you pup's eye is not that bad but better to solve the problem now before it gets worst. |
Morgan had watery eyes and it was a ulcer so they put him on eye drops and now we have a ointment that we put in his eyes before grooming// also might have the pressure in his eyes checked// that's how we found out he has glaucoma |
He's doing great today, not swollen or watering...I'm going to take him in Monday just to check it out anyway. If it starts back up before then, I'll go ahead and take him to the emergency vet. I'm definatly going to try the vasoline tip, not sure why I didn't think of that LOL. :D |
For several months now i have gave mine only Gerber or Nursery water, it has stopped their faces from being wet all the time from eye drainage..it must have been the chlorine or other additives in the tap water that was causing it |

I may not need an er visit, but a check would be great. Like I said I thought Sam's was just irratated due to grooming and waited a week and then he had a bigger problem. He is fine now but there will always be a little spot on his eye. |

I agree with Lil Sis that it is always best to have it checked out and taken care of before it becomes a bigger problem. |
Kristin - I finally bought some vaseline and qtips last weekend because Mandie still has "bangs" that haven't quite grown enough to reach her ponytail. I put a little bit on and it was great! Held the hairs out of her eyes and where I wanted them. Then, I put her down and she ran to the bed and wallowed face first in the covers until she had Vaseline all over her face. LOL (okay, it wasn't that bad because I only used a very small amount but you get what I'm saying). Wanda - I'm happy to hear Oscar's eye is doing better today. Let us know what the vet says. I wonder if it is allergies. |
