Help !! I have a new Yorkie , she's only 3 months old. But every chance she get, she's eating her poop !!:-(( its gross , what can I do. I heard putting pineapple fruit in her food would stop her , but I've been doing that for 2 weeks, & it's not helping at all. I love my little TIA. But this his driving me crazy. |
they make treats that are supposed to stop them from eating their poop too, but I'm not sure if they work any better than pineapple or not |
The pineapple worked great for Laddy. I gave him a teaspoon of crushed pineapple a day and after a week he never looked at his poo the same again.:p |
If the pineapple is not working you could try treats that are made by nature vet.. |
And if none of that is working, I'd ask my vet's advice. Perhaps there is something lacking in the nutrition he is absorbing from his food. |
your doing at lease three pineapple chunks a day?? it may take more than 14 days. Keylo was eating her poop and this did stop her. I didnt put it in her food though i feed her the chunck as a snack. not sure that makes any difference but you have to be sure to give at least three and you can give up to five a day i believe. best wishes that you find a solution. |

My Libby did this too! I have had quite a few dogs over the years and NEVER had one that did it. To tell the truth, I don't remember how I got her to stop other than giving her heck for it. I bet she did it for a couple months. It wasn't constant she didn't do it every day, but she did like my other dog's doo! I have never given my dogs pineapple! Here it's something we have in the home all the time and they've been missing out. So people use it for training? Good luck and get the toothbrush out! |
Some have said that it could be due to the quality of food you are feeding. I have four that eat their own poo, the others poo, they aren't very picky when it comes to eating poo !!! lol It got worse when I put them on a diet. Maybe you could add an additional meal to see if that helps. |

The vets office has stuff you can buy for this |
Lacey doesn't eat her own poop, but she enjoys the cat's poop. I don't think the cat would eat pineapple. I am constantly checking the cat's litter pan to stay ahead of Lacey. That's the first place she runs to when I let her out of the crate. The cat pan is deep, but she manages to get to it, bring it to the living room, and then crunch before I can get it away from her. Sunday night she ate a piece, got sick, and re-ate it. Then she jumped on the couch and gave me a nice big wet kiss. I thought of one of those self cleaning litter pans, but I heard they can be dangerous. I'm at a loss on how to break this habit. |
