Two Yorkies Hello! Just wondering what people had to say about having 2 Yorkies! Is it best to have two females? Or a male and a female? Also- what is a good age to introduce a new puppy? |
I have a male and a female and they get along well and they never fight. I got mine as pups both so they grew up together. They are like brother and sister. Its a little harder that way with potty training but it worked out for us |
We have a 4 year old male and 1 year old female. They are great together. I love this combination. |
I think dogs do best with another around, they are pack animals. I dont think boy/girl matters every dog is so individual it just depends on the dog. I have a boy and girl and we also foster some dogs just click well with others right away just like people but I have never seen a gender preference with mine. |
I couldn't say what's best. I have a boy and a girl and they are 6 days apart in age...both 3 as of today, Brody's birthday. Brody was 14 months old when we got him, and 3 months later, both Brody and Mia were 17 months old when we got her. Brody and Mia are best of friends, and soooooo good together. It's amazing, really. |
I have two females. They love each other but we do have fights. But they are not too bad. :D. I love having two. :) |
I have 3 females yorkies and 1 male golden presently. Cozy rules the pack. None of them ever fight. |
Not all of mine are yorkies but there are 5 toy breed dogs here age ranging from 13yrs to 2 yrs. They all have their space. One of my poodles still thinks that he is a puppy (11yrs with a heart condition) still plays hard with the youngest. |
I have a male and female who came from the same litter. They fight sometimes but I think it's more play than actual fighting. They eat, sleep and play together and really do love each other. I LOVE having two. |
I say the more the merrier! I want another and am trying to talk my hub into it heheeh |
Two is fun I got my 2nd Yorkie, Kiri, a rescue when she was just over a year old. My older dog, Jake, was 14 years old at the time. I had so much angst about doing it!!! But it has been worth it. While he's never going to be madly in love with her, they do get along even despite the huge age difference. (He's now 15). |
We now have 3 yorkies.....1 male and 2 females. They all get along fine. We have not ever had any of them fight for dominance. |
I have two, a male and a female. They love each other and it's a lot of fun watching them play. However, it is a lot easier having one. Traveling is a lot easier with just one, but I love that my little guy has a buddy to hang out with when we are not with him. I don't feel as guilty when I go to work because he has his sister. Two are a lot of fun! :D |
I don't have two female yorkies but I have two females. Khloe is my one year old yorkie and Kirby is my soon to be nine year old bichon frise. For the most they get along fine. Bichons are sweet natured and cheerful dogs. Khloe is a little spicier but sweet and of course younger. When Kirby gets sick of playing with her little sister , sometimes she will go in another room and sometimes she just growls for little sister to stop nagging her. Khloe respects her big sister and knows to stop. Both have lap dog syndrome. They both love to be held and snuggle. You just have to give both girls equal love and time. Remember to greet and feed the dog you had first first. In my case Kirby gets greeted first and fed first. They NEVER fight. They play fight over toys but it never gets out of hand. No aggressiveness between them. I was worried about 2 females not getting along but no problem. |
I have 2 little girls! One will be 9 yeas old in April and the other will be 6 years old March 26. The older girl was 3 when the new puppy came home to be her sister. They are like 2 peas in a pod......of course there is the occasional time when they growl but they get over it in seconds. They are my "little girls" and even now enjoy their new cousin...another little girl....a cavelier king charles spaniel who was 1 year old in November. We doggie sit her daily ( since she was brought home at 6 months old) and she is part of the family. :) Also have a 17 lb. male kitty who they love to chase and play with everyday. They take their important nap daily and all four will sleep together on the couch! I am so lucky and blessed! |
I have multiples. What I will say is that if there is a squabble in my home it is always either two females or two males. I never have any issues at all with opposites. |

I really didn't understand how good it is for one, to have the opposite (sex) companion. Since I realized that, I have always made any addition to My "Pack", like this... Same Breed, Opposite Sex, The new Dog about 2 years younger than the Resident. Note: Age separation will assist in promoting/maintaining the Resident's status within your household, and be a reasonable "space", in later years, when the oldest approaches the Bridge... Also, if/when you do add, be sure to give a LOT of attention to the resident animal, overdo it in fact. Many resident animals really suffer psychologically when they think they are being replaced in your heart, with another. |

I have a now 7 year old boy And one year old girl. 10 weeks when I got her. My boy hated her at first, figured she wasn't visiting and not leaving. So it took about a month for him to get use to her and now they're always together. Although for her tiny size compared to him, she's bossy and fiesty. Basically the boss! Lol |
Having two yorkies is THE BEST!!! I say get the second one soon so they can grow up and bond together :) |
I actually have 4 yorkies two females (sisters) and two males (not related) and the biggest female is the leader of the pack (also the instigator) and my smallest male is the "leader of the boys" they are amazing to have! you learn new things with them every day :) their favorite thing to do right now is harass my sheltie (shes 12) and she is still getting used to them. They each have their own cushion on the couch but all end up cuddling together when your asleep with them. |
We have a 4 year old morkie female and a 1 year old yorkie male. They are great together and i think my morkie is happier now that she has a little companion :) |
Sounds like you've gotten LOTS of advice :) I have a male & a female. My male came 1st but we've never had any issues at all from day 1. Welcome to YT! |
Although I prefer females I think a male & female make the happiest pair. I had to move one of my girls, Bella, upstairs because she started fighting with Sophie seriously. My daughter lives upstairs and Bella gets along great with Bailey, her male even though he picks at her. |
I have a male and female that are a month apart. My only problem is fighting over toys and jealous of me. The female usually starts it. They play together but sure do get into some serious fighting! I have to pull them apart. I hate they do that. The female is smaller but she sure takes over him! |
I have 5 girls ranging from 12 yrs. to 8 months and boy do they fight! Just like 5 women in the kitchen! |
