Yorkies and cats Hi All! Just wondering how your yorkie gets along with your cat! I will be introducing my cats to their new "brother" soon! |
well , i suppose it mainly depends on the dispositions of the dog & cat.. my yorkie as well as my 2 other dogs are very good with my 2 cats.. however only 1 of the cats likes the dogs.. :D all in all they all get along very well.. sooner or later everyone learns his/her place in the pack..:) |
My yorkies love our cat, I'm just not sure the feeling is mutual tho |
Ditto Melany! |
Since my husband is allergic to cats, Columbo only knows the neighbor cats, which he HATES!!! The mere mention of the word 'cat' or 'pussycat' starts him barking. A cat meowing on TV also sets him off. He puts them in the same category as squirrels and crows, maybe worse. Of course, we have never egged him on:rolleyes:... He does, however, love cat poop... |
They get along real well when the yorkie comes first and the cats later. In your case where the cats were there first its going to take some time for them to get along it all depends on the cats personality yorkies get along with cats well |

I have two cats at home a 10 lb black fatty called Sheldon (male) and a 5lb long hair calico called Bast (female). They were wary of Titus at first but Titus and Bast adore each other. They play together all the time and he follows her around sometimes lol Sheldon doesnt care too much about Titus. Their first meeting conducted of a swat to the face. There was one time where Titus was drinking water from his bowl and Sheldon came out of no where and swatted Titus's face into his bowl lmao Titus's face was soaked....my poor baby. Sheldon isn't vicious to him but lets him know when he gets in his personal space. Titus doesnt get the hint tho. He keeps following after Sheldon but at a distance. |
I have my sons' two cat here with three yorkies. Cats were here first, they are litter mates, brother and sister...Darth and Skye. Darth is the gentle giant....great cat loves everyone. He will just lie there while the Biewer puppy chews on his tail or his ears. When he has had enough he gets up and walks away. Then there is Skye...:eek: She is a little biotch so to speak....cant stand the dogs...keeps a very wide berth when she is around them, which is rare. The dogs all pick up on this and constantly harass her, which often results in her taking a swipe at whoever is closest. She will hiss and spit and threaten them with her claws....they don't back down....she finally gets pizzed off and goes off into parts unknown! |
My kids get along mostly fine with the cats. Brody was buddy buddy with with especially one of the cats until we got Mia. Now he snuggles with them and other times 'herds' them around. Mia is such a buddy to especially one of the cats that he sometimes has to 'make' her stop kissing him. |
2 months in and our kitty doesn't know what she thinks of Carter but Carter loves her I tell ya. He cries and pulls a fit when she wants nothing to do with him which is always. She will hiss or slap if he gets in her face. He has chased her out of the room a few times, which I don't think he realizes is not scoring him any brownie points. |
As terrier mine can't help but try to chase my cats. However, my cats are both bigger than the yorkies. Mika will turn around and make them see stars when she knocks them on the head so they generally leave her alone. Tallulah is nuts she will just stand their while the dogs jump and bark at her looking very bored by the whole thing. |
I have 4 cats...all four a close to double the largest yorkie's weight. My oldest cat cuddles and grooms my yorkies. The second oldest has nothing to do with the dogs....she neither likes them nor dislikes him! The last two are still kittens and both dogs and cats absolutely love each. They play all 4 together 24/7. Now if a stray cat came into the yardthe yorkies would be on it as quick as could be...in a not nice way!!! |
One of our yorkies looooves the cats and the other hates them... I think it all depends! Both of them were raised with cats (we had the cats first) and they feel very differently about the kitties. Khloe loves to give both cats kisses like crazy and Couver watches their every move to make sure they aren't doing anything bad. lol |
Depends on the cat. The puppy will learn, and the cat will let the pup know when a good time to meet is LOL |
