New yorkie owner here! Question about color... Hi there, I am still awaiting my pups to be able to come home, but I have seen a photo of them at about 2 1/2 weeks old. They are 'traditional' colored according to the breeder who I really trust. What I am wondering is, their dad is a white and tan parti (mom is chocolate and tan traditional?); I prefer traditional color, and I know that they have been declared traditional, but could they develop any white/parti colors as they get older, or will they stay traditional? Thanks! Also any other advice/tips would be great, I have never owned a yorkie before and I can't wait to bring my little guys home! :) |

Did the breeder send you pics? When do you get to go see them? Yorkies change their colors for a long time, so I'm not sure but I suppose it is possible for them to change to look more like dad. |
I think parti yorkies change color. Dont quote me. |
In my Blazer's litter there were 6 pups- 3 brown and 3 black. At 9 months old ALL of them are now very light colored. One of the black pups is VERY light blonde. Seriously, you just never know what color they will end up until they are done changing! Personally, I think color of the dog is the least of the concerns- you will love that baby like crazy in no time! =) |
1 Attachment(s) Rosie was more black colored when I got her at 6 months. Look at her now. :). I really think you could see big color changes. Mikki also has changed in her color features. Attachment 383498 |
BTW, welcome to YT! |
Parti yorkies don't change but the white coat coloring which is dominant sometimes grows over or blends in with the black so that it isnt as noticeable. You can always pull the coat apart and still see black even though it is intermingled. |
