Yorkie Shaking: What does it mean??? Hello everyone!! I've noticed my friends puppy shakes most of the time. I'm not too sure what it means? Is she cold? Scared? Sick? It's just so sad to see her like that all the time, and I'm not sure why she's doing it! I mean, if I'm considering buying a Yorkie, I don't want my poor thing shacking like that most the time ): Would like to know your opinion!! thanks! |
Hard to say what is causing the shaking. Could be hypoglycemia. She might do well to have some Nutrical on hand. You can look on the sick and injured thread for more ideas. Most yorkies I know of don't shake unless they are ill or scared. Hope you get some answers. |
Hi. How old is the puppy? Does it act normal in all other ways? Does it have energy? Shaking can be caused by various things such as: cold, scared, low blood sugar, and pain. If the puppy shakes all the time, I would definitely take it into a vet to get their opinion. |
It is usually related to anxiety, excitement, cold or pain/illness. |
Btw, hypoglycemia is low blood sugar and can be common in yorkie puppies. |
Kyra will shake around strangers. That could be what this little one is doing. With her it is anxiety. She never shakes when its just us here unless there is a storm. |
Brandi shakes around other people (when she first meets them but usually will stop) but she is okay when it's just her and I. She will also shake when she is cold and she always shakes at the groomers and the vet's |
Sophie will shake sometimes when she is feeling anxious like going into the vet ;). |
Hmm yes it would be nice to know the age.. We can have a better judgment on what it “could” be. I agree it could very well be “hypoglycemia”. I would tell your friend to take her puppy to the Vet to get checked out.. If this is something that happens all the time, that would worry me. Peanut never had the shakes when he was a puppy. He does shake now, when he is scared.. Other than that he never shakes.. |
my chihuahua's used to shake, but that was due to anxiety. Ruffy and Abbey shake when they go to the vet but thats also due to anxiety. We don't know how old this puppy is, do we? |
I just read that some dogs shake as a prelude to or as the only manifestation of a seizure. Even if it is just a petit mal seizure - they can manifest seizure in so many ways and shaking is one of them. A dog can have a seizure like this from dropping blood sugar and many other causes. I would sure encourage your friend to take the dog to the vet if it continues when the dog is not cold, hungry, scared or anxious. If a dog is just lying about shaking, there is probably another cause for that and the animal could be ill or in serious pain. |
My girl shook alot when we first got her..like ALL the time..It takes time but she has really lessened up in the shaking to almost none(we got her at 11 months) she shakes if we take her outside sometimes or in the car , if she knows shes been naughty, but shes getting better. She was bred for show so she was pretty isolated..now shes in a big family lol... gave her ice chips the other day and she devoured them..right after she was looking at me and shake, rattle and rolling..I said "I told you to slow down" Brain Freeze! wrapped her in her blankee and she was snoring away on my lap 5 mins later... |
Could be just a nervous dog. I have one that never shakes and another that will shake during loud noises or car rides. All yorkies are different and just because your friend has one that shakes alot doesnt mean you will. You need to be careful when you puppy shop you want to get one that is outgoing and carefree |
