Oh My! HAWKS!
 
Eva Noel is at 5 months now and I would love to let her run around our property (with me) unleashed, but I'm so afraid of these huge Redtail Hawks that hunt our land! They are so fearless and fast, they even come in close to check us out when we are in the driveway.

I thought I read a comment my first day onYT about a vest that will repel a Hawk, is there such a product? If so, help!

Any help appreciated!

Mandiesmom Terri puts a halloween pumpkin costume on her to go outside...she puts it on Mandie inside out.

I also had brite orange vests made for my babies, even when they are supervised continously in the back yard...those hawks will swoop down and snatch up any little "vermin" or "rabbit" they see....at least they wont swoop when the dog has a bright orange vest on...they study it before they attack to see exactly what it is......but I wouldnt be comfortable letting them run with hawks swooping overhead....I have had a baby carried off by a predator bird....it is a sight you wont get over.

Horror at the thought! I saw one of the hawks swoop down and get a rabbit, and that was a most horrific sight! That's why I'm too afraid to let her run free even in my front yard. :eek:

i worry about this too! even though we live in the city... we have a large hawk and eagle population :-( I drive a convertible..and one time i swear a hawk was stalking us down the parkway through rock creek park!
the idea terrifies me...sooo.. i dont let her off leash even in the rural park areas...
what about the orange vest keeps hawks away??

I'll check out the vest, thank you. I read there is a 3d reflective tape that scares off birds of prey. Apparently it confuses them. I might have to buy a case and wrap up my cat and Eva Noel! :D

Lots of Hawks here too!
I would never even consider letting my boys run loose. The hawks circle when I am walking them :eek: They are around every day.
Name of our road is Hawkstone :(

How awful! I am so scared of those things with Chloe. I won't let her run around our yard either.

I made Cali a vest dress with spikes on it to wear when we went to the park. I tend to not trust anything, but I feel better when she wears it. I don't seem to be able to post pictures but those who sew will find they can order the spikes on line to add to want ever you have made. I made her vest out of left over Kevlar I was given, but it is hard to get.

Kevlar - spikes -- geez I sound like we Re going into battle!

I only use the vest to deter. I also walk around with a pop-out umbrella and never let her run without me hovering and watching the sky. I also bought some mirrors to post (facing skyward), but haven't had time yet. Here is the vest she wears:

Hawks hunt on our land everyday too, and poor little Eva has never been able to run around our yard because of it. I will take her out on a lease but I am constantly looking toward the sky!
