How Big is Too Big...Please Help Hello everyone!!! I am new to yorkietalk and I just want to thank everyone for making me comfortable enough to ask questions that may seem a little wacky to you. Ok here goes nothing. I am in the process of purchasing a female yorkie. Right now she is 11 weeks old and weighs 4lbs :confused: . Is this like a supersized :) yorkie or is it fairly normal. I wanted a puppy that would be on the large side of the standard (3-7lbs), but will she grow to be a lot larger than 7lbs? size She will probably push 10 pounds.. To me it would depend on the price and her personality as a pet. No, I would not pay $1000 for a big Yorkie, but would pay $500 for a great pet. |
As a matter of fact she is asking $1000...And as I talked to her earlier, she isn't going to come down off of that price at all. I put a $50 deposit about 2 months ago and I think that I will just consider it a loss. I never intended to get a ultra small puppy, but I did want a small (between 4 and 5lbs) puppy. toby was 3 lbs at 12 weeks and he is now 13 lbs full grown.... sometimes they slow down (i have heard of a 3lb puppy at 12 weeks being 6 lbs full grown) I guess it all depends on if their are any "miracle grow" yorkies in teh bloodline. IMO, i think having a larger yorkie is awesome. They arent nearly as fragile, but i didnt pay $1000 for him either :rolleyes: Sometimes i wish i could have a smaller one that i can actually take places and people not notice, but i am happy with toby and i am only a one dog at a time person :p |
Desi was 1 1/2 lbs. at 12 weeks, she was suppose to be 3 to 3 1/2 lbs. Today, at a year old she is 4 1/2 lbs. Perfect size. The rule of thumb is that you double the weight at 12 weeks, then add a pound and thats an approximation of their adult weight. Sometime it works..sometimes it doesn't.. |
My first yorkie was big he was almost 11 pounds. Best dog I ever had. I only paid $250 for him because he was big. |
Any good breeder should be able to tell you what the size their puppy's will be when grown. Also Always...Always insist on seeing the mom and dad ,again any reputable breeder will want you to see them. If they refuse or make excuse's walk away. |
My Joey weighed that about the same age. Too big to show but, far and away, the BEST dog I've ever had!!! Wouldn't trade him for any amount of money! |
I only want a pet quality puppy but I can't see myself paying $1000 for something that I don't want. With that said, If I had the puppy at my home and over the months, I realized that it was getting a bit bigger than I expected, I would still have unconditional love for her. A larger pup is not what I am looking for right now. I saw her parents, they seemed to be fairly small. She told me that they were both under 5lbs. Thanks everyone for your input. Zoe looks small, but she is solid. At almost 12 weeks she is a bit over 3lbs (my mom didn't write it down when she was at the vet). The breeder said she should be around 6.5lbs, so we'll see :rolleyes: I could care less, just don't LIE to me, lol. I paid $800 for her. |
