yorkie acting strange A few weeks ago I put flea stuff down her back and she started acting strange. Wouldn't come to me. Jump on the bed. Wouldn't stay on the sofa. Just lay on the floor. And watch me. When I called her name she would stand up but that's it so I gave her a bath n she was back to normal. Last night I put a flea collar on her n same thing.. she will lay at my feet n let ne pet her just for a second but wont get in the bed with me or sit on the sofa with me. .. Should I be conserned? |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Yes, I would be concerned. I'd throw the flea collar in the trash... many are too harsh for Yorkies. How old is yours and how much does she weigh? What kind of topical did you use on her? |
She is two ywrs old and almost 9lb. I got hartz ultraguard plus for puppies. She starting to across normal now but still scared to lay with me or walk on her blanket or for me even to pet her. I think I'm going to take it off of her |
Yeah, I would agree she is maybe having a reaction to it. Maybe discuss a different option with your vet! and welcome to YT!! |
Yes Hartz products have been killing dogs for years! Best thing is to get something directly from your vet, It's the safest way to go. And never use two products back to back or too close together... can cause toxicity issues and death. If your dog is showing any kind of symptoms, she should be seen by a vet. |
I agree with KJC, throw away the flea collar. I would stay away from all of the Hartz products. Talk to your vet about a flea and tick preventative. |
My cat Gizmo used to react very badly to a flea collar, within seconds of putting it on him he would lie down and go limp and unresponsive. Get rid of the collar and ask your vet for an alternative treatment. Hope you find something that suits better soon. |
Thank u all. I took it off of her. I know the vet gave her capstar blue last week but they give that to her every time she goes. |
If you still have a bad flea problem, you can sprinkle table salt on the carpets and leave it on overnight, it will dehydrate the fleas, then vacuum in the morning and empty the vac outside. Increased vacuuming will help get rid of any fleas. |
I don't think I have a flea problem. She stays inside most of the time but I catch her scratching around her neck so I assume she is starting to get them. This is why I started treating her. I might put salt down just incase. |
It would be good to have your vet check her out. Scratching at the neck can be a symptom of other medical problems. I would think fleas would make her itchy all over. |
I would absolutely be concerned. I won't use Hartz products...haven't since I was a kid...not a fan of what was then called Hartz Mountain...now just Hartz. Me? I'd cut my lo$$e$, toss the products in the rubbish, and never look back. :p:D |
Thank you for all your support. Maybe she's just pissed off at me. Lol I would think that would have caught something. Her liver count in lab work is all good. They did all that and a exam. Not even a week ago when she had her teeth cleaned. She was groomed. post op. exam in a few other things all last week. I will call the vet Monday. Thanks again |
Flea collars and any hartz products are very bad for dogs. |
Thanks lovetodream. No more collars for her |
