Just in case you were wondering...
 
Joey came out of surgery just fine. He had 2 teeth removed while he was down. The vet updated me via text the whole time and she was great!
However...my sweet Carley got her Rabies & DAPPL shot, and had a horrible reaction to it. Her whole body swelled up and she has a horrible rash. I gave her benadryl and the vet came back out and pumped her full of sterriods. So, she is back (although still has a rash) to normal now..and Joey is still taking it easy.
I am so relieved the process is over, but I cant say I would recommend it to someone that isnt ready. However, if you are going to do it, I HIGHLY recommend having a mobile vet come out. It was so much better knowing they were right there and if anything were to happen my husband could go check on them :)

Glad to hear Jpey is doing well and that Carley is recuperating. Very scary to deal with a reaction like that. Best wishes to her.

Why did they give Carley two vaccines, especially a combo, all at the same time?

Carley has always had both together..Shes 4 and this is her first reaction. I wont be getting them together again though!

So glad to hear Joey's surgery was fine and he is on his way to recovery. Sorry to hear about Carley. Jack just got the Lepto vaccine this past Monday and I was so worried about him (he has to go back for a booster on the first of April). Fortunately no reactions from it.

No its perfectly fine to give me advice! I dont want to sound short with you, if thats how you were taking it.
I honestly dont know a lot about the vaccines. My county requires rabies and shes always gotten the 2 together. Joey gets the added bordatella because he goes to the groomers and does more outtings than Carley. I was looking in her records and shes always gotten the DAPP (without the L). I was so nervous with Joey yesterday I didnt even think to ask the vet..I only said she needed her yearly shots.

Glad for Joey but so sorry about Carley. Poor girl. Hope both of them do okay tonight and I know mommie won't sleep that much tonight checking on them but that's what we do.

I'm glad to hear Joey did well. I'm so sorry about Carley! We have always avoided bundling the vaccinations and my two have still had small reactions.

Sorry Carley had to go through that. Many vets will not give that many shots at once to a small dog. We made many trips to the vet before Gracie finally had all her immunizations. They give these dogs the same amount of vaccine as they do larger dogs. Some little ones just cannot handle it. Maybe consider not having them all done at once next time. Hope she is feeling better soon.

Just wanted to clarify a bit - Carley is a big dog - a Lab. Although, even with the info I have these days, I'm really becoming anti-vaccine on any dog (big or small). Well, not anti-vaccine, but anti-yearly. Studies are really starting to show that we over vaccinate our dogs.

Carley is a big dog, 55lbs But I wont be giving her shots together again! And she surely wont get the DAPPL.

She said they have everything they need. And they did the pre-op blood work. Everything came back fine.
Theyre not just for dogs/cats, they also do large animals (horses and cattle) so I am assuming they are fine with small pets too.

I guess having that kind of reaction in a Lab would cause you to consider other options. We are not revaccinating Gracie. She will have titers from time to time. Yearly vaccination makes no sense when the animals is still carrying the antibody.

Thats what I am thinking too. Its not like we have random animals coming into our home all the time. She wont be exposed to anything here, and after the way she reacted to it, I will not do that again to her.
