Morgan's eyes Took morgan to the vet today and he has dry eye in right eye and he has glaucoma in both eyes// he has ointment for the dry eye and eye drops for the glaucoma . Has anyone else had experience with this ? I am so upset/ I don't want him to go blind// I am just sick about it |
Aw! I'm so sorry.... I really can't help here... just sending prayers. |
I am so sorry for Morgan and you. How old is Morgan? Patti had a senior, Nikki, who had glaucoma. You may want to ask your vet for a referral to an ophthalmologist. |
Morgan will be 2 next month |

If you can, I think seeing a specialist is the way to go. I will keep Morgan and you in my prayers. |
My nephew had a lab w dry eye. He went many many years w drops before they quit working and his eye needed to be removed. I've never heard of a pup so young w glaucoma. I would get in to a specialist if you have that option. Keeping you and Morgan in my thoughts and prayers! |

There are a lot of different medications that can be used to try to save Morgan's vision for a while, but generally glaucoma eventually wins. And chasing the pressure readings can be very expensive and time consuming. Glaucoma hit my dog's first eye when she was 12. By the time we realized what was going on, her pressure was very high, she was in a lot of pain and had already lost the vision in that eye anyway. She had enucleation surgery (her whole eyeball was removed) the day after she was diagnosed. We immediately started treating her other eye for glaucoma even though her pressure was still good. She did fine for about nine months and then the pressures started rising. The eye specialist kept adding more and more drops, and pretty soon we were using four different types of drops 3 to 4 times daily, and the pressures just kept getting higher. When I knew the pressure was high enough to be painful, we had a procedure done on the eye to kill all the fluid producing cells. It's called chemical ablation. Unfortunately the procedure kills all cells, so now she's blind, but does still have her eye. Blind dogs do pretty good though. She's been blind about a year now and has made a good adjustment. Not the best news in my post, but I'm still hoping the vet made a mistake and your very young dog does not have glaucoma! Paws crossed! Diana and the Scoobster |
I went to my regular vet and it is in both eyes. I am waiting a call from my vet/the closet specialist is 500 miles away but we will take him//my vet called them and is waiting on a call from them. I criied all day yesterday. But I will do everything that I can for Morgan. |
I have an 8 year old Lasha (similar to a shih tzu) who had a cherry eye. The cherry was removed about 4 or 5 years ago and he now has dry eye. The vet said as long as I put the drops in his eye daily he will be fine. He did have some pressure in his eye, and he was given drops for that and he seams to be ok now. It is something I have to watch closly I hope your little one does as well... please keep us posted. |
So sorry to hear about Morgan's eyes. I am sending prayers for her and for you. I hope the specialist can offer some help. Blessings! |

you are a great yorkie mom.. but wait till the vet tells you what needs to be done. Sammy is doing fine and its been close to a year. The drops stoped the problems..I just have to be sure to put the ones for dry eye in everyday and I take him in every few months to check. I am praying for you that it is managable for you little guy.. poor morgan could be fine..wait to talk to the vet again |
Prayers for Morgan. I hope the specialist can find a treatment that will help prevent blindness. Years ago we had a rescue, Springer Spaniel named Fred who was blind. He lived a long and happy life even being blind. The only thing we did different was NOT move furniture. We used paper tape to mark the exact spot for his bowls. When he was adopted, the people had a small chihuahua mix that sort of acted like a seeing eye guide for him. Once he learned to follow her( I think her name was Tinkerbell) scent trail, he never bumped into walls or miss jumped onto his favorite ottoman. |
Thanks everybody. I will update after I talk to his vet |
check out "Paris" here on this site. She created a blog for her "Paris" when he went blind. You may find some comforting info there. prayers for you and Morgan xo |
