For you in US/US Territories...It has begun When you take that adorable ball of fur to hsi or her next vet appt., be ready. Vet offices are already posting warning signs of things to come - and coming soon they are. The current administration did not exclude those used for animals when they created and slapped on enormous taxes to all medical equipment and related assundries (hopefully, I'll be lucky and find a way to pay the new rate for my next pacemaker - but I digress. Well, what this means for your little hair balls is this: much higher costs on anything from an x-ray, CT,equipment used in cutting and resetting bones, cauterizers for surgery, sterilized intubation packets, sterilization equipment (I know, because my brother has company that sells that stuff), and many, many more items that do not come immediately to mind. |

I pray for our country daily and my opinion is I leave it in Gods hands because there sure as heck isn't much I can do about it. As one of the older ones here it is going to effect us alot but getting depressed about it only hurts me. |
This may stop and cut down some breeding programs, and there will be many more pets ending up needing homes, and a rise in price to purchase from a reputable breeder. It will be a domino effect that will not be good at all for a long time, but it may only strengthen puppy mills, since they don't Vet. their animals and still people buy from them thru pet shops & private homes. These are some troubling times we live in for sure. |

No way is their being notified of increased taxes "another scare tactic". Like I said, to date, there is no exemption for animals. If you breathe and you need these medical items, an increased tax will accompany them. BTW, and only to support my point, my EP (a special kind of cardiologist) did, in fact, tell me that they expect VERY significant increases in specialized medical equipment such as the one I require. Just the facts. Not "flaming", just evaluating your logic. Just the facts, ma'am. |
The law has already taken effect. Rarely are devices/equipment used for animals ONLY. Those that are (many are bovine, equine related) are exempt. ALL others are being taxed (not will be taxed) - ARE being taxed, as a lot of medical equipment/devices are multi-species. The future is now. Why "wait and see"? And you know how things can get twisted around to make what would seem like it would be exempt, suddenly is swept up in the frey....well, I was JUST falling asleep and heard on the TV...but did not catch it all, or how it is going to work specifically, but CELL PHONES, I think those Smart phones, are somehow going to get swooped up and somehow included in this "medical device" thing....boy, just LOOK at all the billions of dollars in taxes collected off the inclusion of smart phones as medical devices!!!!! All you breeders had better quick buy dopplers if you are wanting them....stethoscopes and blood pressure monitoring devices as well...blood sugar machines too....did I mention hearing aides????.....eye glasses???? |
This country is going in the wrong direction and has been. With increased taxes and increased regulations we are already paying more for alot of things and it will just continue as they want increased revenue |

You can choose to be scared,not really a productive option or you can choose to work towards being prepared. I am in my mid 50s,from here it doesnt look very good. Well... the new healthcare laws are certainly not lowering healthcare costs for most of us although that's what the claim was. The exact opposite is true! Unfortunately medical equipment,cost of medicines, doctors, vets and our insurance is all rising. They make no distinction between animals and people. You can bet it will get even worse in 2014. |
