Newbie with a Question Hi there. I am new to this forum and have a question. I am the owner of a 41/2 year old male yorkie named Ty who weighs 5lbs . His coat is the usual steel blue/grey/tan colour but during his last two trips to the groomer I have notice that on his back, closer to the tail, his coat is turning darker with brown tips. Has anyone else noticed this in any of their dogs? His diet hasn't changed nor has anything else. It doesn't worry me but I was just curious. I usually have his coat cut short during the summer and I noticed this when it was growing out during the fall. |
Hi...I haven't had this happen but I hope by replying I bump it up to see if anyone else replies! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. One of my boys, Teddy, is almost 3 years old and his hair seems to be continuing to change. He is quite colorful. Sometimes his hair appears to reflect a rusty brown color, and then it goes back to reflecting steel blue. I can't decide if he is affected by exposure to sunlight or our ever-changing water quality or what. My other boy doesn't change. |
Welcome to YT! I can't help with your question but wanted to say hi. |
We hear of this often, and I have a "theory" FWIW... As all animals mature, there are several changes in their attitudes and appearance. The 4.5 years for Yorkies is generally toward their near mid-life. In the wild, which is where they all came from originally, responsibilities of animals to provide for their Pack is placed on them. I believe that most changes in their appearances is related to better blending in to their environment, sort of Mother Natures way of providing camouflage. The more stealthy, the probability of more productive hunts, and subsequently the Pack is better fed. |
Thanks for the feedback. Ty's is more of a rusty brown also but it seems to be only on the first inch or so. The root is now going back to his original color. Guess he just wants his Momma kept on her toes so that if anything changes with him I will notice it. I am constantly looking him over and checking him out. I am looking forward to reading all about everyones adventures with their little ones andd thanks again. |
