New Yorkie I recently got a new yorkie, we got her from a family that apparantly didn't have enough time for her, but she is so hyper and happy when it is just me or my husband, running around all happy, but once she sees my shi tzu or pomerian she runs the complete opposite way, and goes right into my room. I've tried petting both of themjust so she can see there is nothing to worry about, but she still does it. We've had her for about 3 days now, is there anything to help her get over her fear or will time have to tell? |
Bumping this so more experienced yorkie owners might respond! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on the new addition to your family. Be patient and continue as you are doing, petting your other dogs, acting confident and cheerful. The dogs will work everything out in time. You can encourage togetherness with playtime, or trick training with treats, or walks together. That is how my guys came together. Give her time and don't worry. She will settle in. |
It's like bringing a new baby into your home. We have just the opposite happening here. Our Princess Sophie wants desperately to play with Hansel (our 9 y.o. mini Schnauzer) and for the most part, he doesn't want anything to do with her so she spends way too much time chasing him. Now that she's tethered, she doesn't do this and Hansel is much happier, for the time being anyway. Give your new baby some time and she will grow accustomed to the older kids. She may have had a scary thing happen before she came to you involving an older kid and so it may take more time than you think but just be patient and she'll come around and the new baby will fit right in. Don't try to force a get together, she will come around in time. |
Thanks for the positive comments, I guess i'll just have to her time :aimeeyork |
I agree just give them time to all adjust to the new dynamics. They will work it out. Congratulations and welcome. |
Congratulations on your new addition! Keep doing what you're doing and it will work out. I usually ask my families to give it two weeks for them to settle in with the family and your ways of doing things, as well as your other pets. She may have had a bad experience with the other owner's dog, so it may take a little longer. Welcome to YT! |
When we first brought Lolita home she was the same with Laddy and our sons boxer it just takes time. |
Congrats. It takes some time. They will work it out |
