What do Y'all do in the rain? I get so frustrated living here in IL near St. Louis, as sometimes it seems like we can have all day rains. And, most of the time it happens right after I've had the dogs groomed or bathed them myself. So, I was wondering what y'all do when it rains, as far as letting your babies go potty (poddy?). I got some rain slickers for them, but they weren't too fond of those. They looked really cute in them, but weren't too fond of them. Maybe I should try to poddy pad train them for when its bad out? I don't know. Looking for suggestions. Thanks as always! |
I have in the past had an ex pen and held a large umbrella over it. |
I have two back patios and one of them the roof comes out further then the patio which gives my furbabies dry ground to do their business. It was not designed for this purpose |
But my babies enjoy it. |
I live in the St. Louis area too. One of mine will wear a raincoat and the other won't. I have found that the best kind is a thin, waterproof one that is lightweight. Mine don't like to wear them if they are stiff and heavy and if they make crinkly noises when they move. They don't like hoods either because they fall over their faces and they can't see. Usually I will walk outside with them and hold an umbrella over their heads if they don't have time to get raincoats on. My husband does it too. My neighbors probably think we are nuts but, oh well. |
Sometimes I have to force them to go out because of the thunder or a hard rain. If its a light rain they will go right out. My issue is more with the Muddy paws X 4. It can get very very messy at times. We eliminated some of the dirt/mud patches by putting patio blocks down but cant do the entire dog run . |
Toby doesn't like going out in the rain but if I put a pad down he'll go on it. |
My Maltese will allow me to walk around with him and an umbrella, and he will go. But the umbrella kind of spooks my Yorkie, and if I put him on a leash, he generally won't go, when on a leash. But, I guess maybe I should just keep trying to leash him and get a big umbrella and keep trying to keep him dry under the umbrella. He might eventually get used to the umbrella. I think the rain slickers might be going back. But man, when they look so pretty, and have just been cleaned up, it drives me nuts to get rain or snow on them. They never look the same after rain or snow gets on them, I don't care if you do blow dry them. Now when they're just about to go to the groomer or need a bath in the next day or two...the bad weather doesn't bother me nearly as badly. |
Tibbe will hold it as long as he can and then he will dash out in the rain and go in the back yard and then back in the house to get dried off. We normally only have short bouts of rain but when it does rain hard and just pours buckets, Tibbe will hold it as long as he possibly can before he goes outside. |
Luckily for me Wallee will still use his pads inside if the weather's bad. Sheesh keeping them clean this time of year is a disaster. Snow is melting here and tge sidewalks have muddy puddles everywhere. Each walk means straight to the tub to wash his entire underbelly and paws. Even if he wears his boots to keep his paws clean, his belly and coat are all muddy....come on summer.:( |
i live in seattle so no complaining :) i just duct tape a poncho to hermes for 8 months that seems to help :D |
Well first I like this post because I thought I was the only Missouri member at YT LOL Charlie don't mind the rain itself but never likes his feet to be wet, doesn't mind the cold but hates the wet. I bought him some boots but they were to heavy for him so a friend of mine found these disposable booties they have velcro to tighten around the leg. of all places she found them at good will and they are pink LOL but they are very light weight and when he steps down they are more like his paw than a rubber boot, once he got use to them they worked out pretty good. I put them on him in the house so he could get use to them. I've seen them on sale @ Petco. |
Built him a porch :) http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9.../Dog/011-2.jpg |
Mine go on the porch if its raining |
We have a covered deck. But she will go out from under the covering sometimes if its not raining too hard. If its raining hard, we could have issues. She has a bladder made of steel. I can usually convince her by going out with her. Then she will hurry to get back inside. |
