New Yorkie Mom I am the proud new mother of Roxanne but we call her Roxy. She is my first puppy and is really sweet. She was given to me as a Christmas gift from my 3 sons and has kept me (us) very busy. Roxy gets to spend her days with my hubby so she is always running and playing, she is 4 months old and weighs 7 lbs already. Is this too much? I feed her BB for small puppies. I am so happy that I found this site because I have so many questions as I want to be the best pet mom possible. I have a couple of questions about potty training and the dry flakes that I am finding in her hair. The dry flakes are really bothering me more than our on/off again potty issues. I will look around the site to see if I can find a thread before I ask something that's been answered before. I love being a yorkie mom!!:animal36 |

Welcome to YT! I don't think you can overfeed a puppy. That is my belief. I free feed puppies. If you are concerned with Roxy's weight though, just have a vet give you his/her opinion. Basically, if you can still feel the ribs well, she's not fat. She's just going to be on the larger side of the Yorkie spectrum. This is a good thing. :) For the dry flakes, make sure you are rinsing her well when bathed. I know that sounds silly to say but seriously..I have learned that when I think I'm done rinsing...I rinse for a few more minutes. Other than that, she may have dry skin. Try adding about 1/8 tsp of organic coconut oil (I use nutivia) to her food. You can rub it directly on her tummy area too. My Mandie has dry skin and tends to have dry hair so I do this. I actually, also, brush her teeth with the coconut oil..she loves it. |
Welcome to YT. Would love to meet your girl. Yorkies come in different sizes that's for sure, but they are always called Yorkies, and NOT toy, miniature, standard or tea-cup. T-Pot is just an affectionate name folks here call their babies who weigh 8 or more pounds. ;) As for the dry skin, she needs Omega 3 in her diet. Dry kibble does not supply the oil they need. There are also other factors that cause dry skin. Winter and heating the house, harsh shampoos, or not rinsing completely. I hope you find the solution. |

New Yorkie mom, new to YorkieTalk! Hello to you and all! I too have a new Yorkie (2 years old) and plenty of questions! I could certainly use some shampoo help, since I understand our girl will probably need a different shampoo from that used on our toy poodle. Alas, my husband is allergic to aloe and I'm allergic to coconut oil, so .....HELP! Her hair seems to be a bit oily too. Also, do I need a spray-on grooming conditioner? Any ideas out there? |
CaroJ11, Have you tried Emu Oil spray? That's what I use for my furballs and seem to be decent. For shampoo, I think a lot of ppl prefer oatmeal shampoos.. If they're getting bit too oily, how about using the wipes? I LUV ROXY, If it makes you feel better, my Magnus is 15.6 lbs. More to love! :) |
