Crate attached to Expen Has anyone tried putting and attaching at wire dog crate to the doorway of the expen? I am thinking of trying this when Chip comes home so that he can sleep in the crate (which I would cover with fabric) but still have access to the pen. I also got one of those stuffed dogs that get warm and have a heartbeat for him. I don't even have Chip yet and the $ is flying out the door!!! :) |
I've seen a lot of people do this! If I had the room, this is how I would do it. :) Just make sure that the sides of the ex-pen are connected to the crate (sides) so that Chip can't sneak through. Also be mindful of any climbing/jumping possibilities if your crate is short. Congrats on your knew baby! Do you have any pics? What's his birthdate? :D |
He is 6 weeks old now I think. I'll be getting him in April. I'm going to try to post an avatar of him |
This is my setup & it works great. Lexie isn't a puppy, but she has plenty of room, her pee pad, food & water and covered bed in the crate. Definitely be alert for any climbing potential, so have a plan for a "top" for the pen area. |

The expen is an iris pen I think it is called? Anyway it has a cut out doorway so he will not be able to climb over the kennel. I am having so much fun buying everything he will need! hehe! |
1 Attachment(s) I have this setup. Instead of a crate I have it attached to what is called a Potty Training Puppy Apartment. They have one designed specifically for the PTPA, but I didn't want to pay the price for that too and their shipping is out the roof. So I went to the local Petsmart and got this to attach to it. It's supposed to be a play yard you can setup stand alone or attach to a crate. It is too big for my limited space so I just folded 2 of the the panels back. I believe this was it, or something very close to it. Precision Pet Exercise Pen with Door - 24" - Gates & Exercise Pens - Dog - PetSmart Here's a partial photo of the setup. What you don't see in the picture is a portion of the PTPA with a bed. And the black blur was Bentley making a b-line for it right after I got the yard added to it. :D I have a kitchen living room combo. The PTPA is in the living room right next to the love seat and the pen is in the kitchen, just in case he has an accident. He basically is in it only when we are out(work/school), or I need him penned up because I can't keep an eye on him, or the occasional "time out." |
I've seen it and think its great haven't done it though Teegy was only expenned for 3 months and Tufty for a day |
This is exactly what I would've done with Mandie if I had thought about it. If/when I get my next one, I will use this set up. I think it's a perfect idea for when you have to be gone at work all day and they are still learning to potty train. |
That's Ruby's set up! |
I wish my kitchen was big enough to do it like yours Anne! I have to set it all up in my living dining area that is carpeted but I am going to put a rubber mat down. |

I know you just can't wait to get your baby. Yes the money goes flying out the door. I got Bentley as my tax return treat this year. (Every year I get myself something I want really bad but don't usually have the funds for. ;) ) I had no idea that I would be spending so much above the cost of Bentley and his vet. Thank God I have a very competitive vet here where I live, so cost is great for that. Just to show how great the vet and prices are, I live next door to a vet clinic and travel 20 minutes to take him to the vet he goes to. ;) But all that said he is worth every penny I have spent and then some. Nothing but the best for my little man. :D:aimeeyork |
1 Attachment(s) I have a richell pen. It has a top, and you can separate by a wall and door a pee area. It also has it own cleanable floor and you can make it small or enlarge it up to 60 inches long..I LOVE IT |
