She killed a mouse! Toxoplasmosis? We came to New Hampshire to visit my mother in law. Yesterday I left Lola in the house while we went to have dinner. When we came back my mother in law found half mouse in the kitchen and I found the other half in our bedroom. I am so mad at myself for letting Lola unattended and now she might have a dissease from that nasty mouse. I knew yorkies were breed to catch mice but I never thought my mother in law had nice at her house. I'm heartbroken just to think Lola could have toxoplasmosis. :( |
I don't know how the great the risk is. Many Yorkies here have caught mice. I would monitor her closely and give your vet's office a call for advice and reassurance. You have a little hunter girl. :) Best wishes and keep us updated. |
You said it yourself, Yorkies are first and foremost..mousers. That's what they do. I suppose, there is always a risk with anything like this, but I'm betting Lola is just fine. And, should be rewarded for doing such a great JOB!! :D |
i think i'd be reallll happy i found both pieces |

Have you called a vet to talk to them about recommendations they may have? I would also be concerned about possible poison that others may have out for rodent problems. |
My Ruby would love to get at any mouse...luckily so far I've been able to keep her away from them. I freaked out the first time and posted her mouse escapade on here. While mice do carry diseases some areas of the country are more prone then others to have certain diseases. You may want to call your vet to see what signs to watch out for but I bet odds are Lola will be just fine. |
Talk to your vet. I think she will be just fine :) Tucker woke me up in the middle of the night once. When I realized there were noises coming from my kitchen, I freaked. Very soon, I discovered that I had a mouse!!!!! YIKES! Thanks to my little mouse hunter, I was alerted to the situation before it go out of control ;) |
We have a fenced in back yard and occassionally our 7 lb. Fritz has escaped out the backdoor unleashed. He has, many times, caught chipmunks and lizzards and killed them. It freaks me out every time. It it so gross and like you I worry about him getting some disease. |
i would talk to your vet just to be safe |
THREE CHEERS FOR LOLA :congrats: :bravo: :good job: Tell your Mother in Law, that will be a $15.00 Extermination Charge ! ;) On a more serious note, our guys have been doing that from day one, and very few are infected. Here's a link where you can read about the symptoms, and just keep an eye on that little Warrior of yours. Give that little girl a hug from ALL the SWHouston Pack :D Ref: Toxoplasmosis in Dogs | petMD |
Laddy will kill any mouse he can find. The only true danger is if they have gotten into poison on someone elses property. We always take the little critter away and give it a proper buriel to keep him from chewing on his kill. |

But I have to second you, YAY LOLA!!!! The most hunting I have gotten out of mine was Pixie with her first kill, a microscopic cricket, and Sabre trying to tackle a possum 4 times bigger than he was. |
Praying your little warrior will be fine :hands: I would be freaked out too though  Such dainty cute little littles we have, yet so full of fire :) |
