Getting nervous about Friday. Diesel gets neutered First time poster here. I'm just getting super nervousness about my baby going into get neutered on Friday. I have never had to leave him at the vet before and he hates car rides and being away from home. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for getting though the day until I can pick him up at 6 pm. I'm gonna be an emotional wreck at work. Also any tips for making his life easier for recovery would be awesome. |
Hi and welcome to YT! It really is the worse..waiting while they are in surgery. Make sure you get the pre-op bloodwork done, ok? Will your vet's office let you stay there? Many will and I would have done this if I had thought to ask with Mandie. Maybe take a book or ipad or crossword or something and hang there. Otherwise, just stay busy and don't hesitate to call for updates all day..it will make you feel better. Post surgery, I would keep on hand some pedialyte, chicken broth, a medicine dropper and mineral oil. These are things I needed with Mandie. The first day or so, she wouldn't eat, but drizzling some chicken broth on her kibble got her to eat right up. The first day, she wouldn't drink, so I used a medicine dropper with water and pedialyte and gave her water the first day. Sometimes the pain meds and such can lead to constipation, so having mineral oil is good. You can put a bit on the food AND rub a bit on his bum. I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers on Friday! |
Thanks for all your great suggestions and espically the one about the Ckn broth. Diesel loves honey and I have used that on his food in the past to get him to eat when he was a puppy. I can't stay at the vets unfortunatly because I have to work that day and my vet requires drop off and pick up at certain times for surgery. He is getting the Bloodwork done for sure. And they said he would get pain med to take home. Thanks for praying for us. I am gonna be a wreck. One other question any ideas or tricks to keep him from jumping after surgery. Jumping is his favorite thing to do!!! |
sending prayers and thoughts to your diesel. |
Praying all goes well :hands: |
Thank you all. I'm loving this forum. Can't believe it took me this long to join:) |
Hope all goes well! Will say a prayer for you guys! |
I always ask the vet to call me as soon as they are out of surgery so I can rest easier. My vet knows how nervous I am and she usually calls me herself as soon as surgery is done. Then I check a couple of hours later to see how they are recovering. Don't feel bad about asking for a call, most vets know how worried we are with these little ones. I will keep Diesel in my prayers. Usually they are pretty tired for the next 24 hours and spend a lot of time sleeping. I would try and limit his jumping by putting him up and down on beds/furniture. Mine use a ramp and never learned how to jump so it was never a problem. Let us know how he does. |
I too was scared to death for Amy when she was spayed. I took her blanket with her and they put it in the crate for her and they also took pictures of her when she woke up and through the day and emailed them to me. They also called twice to tell me how she was. My vet keeps the little ones over night to watch them and make sure they eat and potty. She was gone from 7AM to 4PM the next day. She was fine and ate as soon as she got home and pottied as well. Seeing if you could stay there while they do the surgery is a very good idea. No matter what you decide he will come through it like a little trooper. |
Just had to reschedule diesels surgery because my car broke down and we will have to wait for our next paycheck. So he is reprieved for a few more weeks. Lucky boy. And lucky mommy except now mommy has to fix her new car :( |

Well, Diesel gets to wait a little longer so I'm sure he's cool with that. Good luck with your car! |
The way she goes. :) he's oblivious. But I feel better |
It is really difficult to hand them over for surgery. I hope you can reschedule him soon so you can just get it over with. It is a long day but they usually bounce back within a day or two. |
It's been rescheduled for the 22nd. |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 02:36 PM. |
