10 nights without Lola how will I stand it. I have an upcoming vacation with my DH to Whistler Canada, and have to leave Lola home:(:(:( it is bothering me to no end. I have to drop her off on Saturday morning because we leave to early on Sunday and we have a mid day memorial to attend so I have to do it before that. We return to late the following Sunday so I will not be able to pick her up until Monday. So that is 10 nights without Lola. I honestly do not know how I will stand it. Lola will be going to a fun place. There is a couple that live several towns over that love yorkies, they have three of their own, and babysit only small dogs. I have been there when there were as many as ten yorkies and somehow all the dogs manage to get along, even my last dog Kirby who hated other dogs, did well there. The dogs have the run of the house and they have a door wall leading to a very secure backyard. Lola will probably feel like she is on a 10 day playday and enjoy herself, but I also think for that amount of time she will think I gave her away and I guess that is what bothers me the most. She has stayed with a good friend before but she seems to realize that she comes back home. She has never been there before, so I hope she does not feel abandoned, I probably should have taken her there for a trial run, but then again I never want to be without her. I keep telling myself she will have fun and Lola is a dog with little hang ups or food problems so she will be fine. Oh well my husband thinks I am nuts worrying but I know you guys will understand. If we would not be on the ski hill all day and out for dinner in the evening I would take her, but being couped up in a condo all day is not good either. So I am counting the days till Saturday:( |
I understand your concerns. maybe send a shirt with your scent on it and if the people shes with determine shes stressed at all they can give it to her and say "mommys coming back" try to look at it like shes getting a vacation too with friends. I bet you both end up enjoying it, but will have a special reunion when you getback.. ENJOY :) |

We have actually been taking seperate vacations since we got Huey (meaning, hubby goes out of town with my blessing and I stay home with dog) until we found a pet friendly beach in Fla that we intend to visit at least annually, if not twice annually. |
You will have to post a pic of you sleeping with your babys clothes..:wink: That be so cute!! |

awwww im sure lola will have a blast!! she could always come stay with me!! hehe. im near canada....kinda. ;*(()) hope dh is not grumpy and you both enjoy your trip more than expected. |
Will be thinking of you. Send one of your shirts with her. Great idea. It does sound like she will have fun and I hope you will enjoy yourself as well. |
a shirt is a good idea but with that many dogs running free Lola will not have a place that is 100% just for her. Paula keeps tons of beds around and the dogs go in and out of them, I am taking Lola's favorite bed and some of her toys but I would not be surprised if another dog started using her stuff. Paula keeps everything pretty clean, but can you imagine giving that many dogs free run of your house. She has one small pallor type room and she keeps a gate across that but her bedroom, kitchen and small family room is filled with dogs, dog beds, piddle pads, and toys. She works 4 days a week, her husband is retired and he loves the dogs and takes care of them when she is at work. They pretty much spend their evenings on the couch surrounded by yorkies. She notices things about the dogs as well so I know she is paying attention to them, she told me quirky things about my last dog like he was afraid of his water dish and commented on how he loved to sleep up on the pillow between her and her husband, she said if the dog wants on the bed that is fine, so she must sleep with a bunch of them. My last breeder took her yorkies there, that is how I found out about her. If a dog does not get along they can not return, but she said out of the 15 years she has been doing this only three did not work out. It costs only about $18.00 a day and that includes the food, she feeds Blue like I do so that worked out. It really is a good place and Lola will probably have a blast and I will be missing her more than her missing me. LOL I think that is why I am worried. |
I understand too!! We have to leave all the babies next week when we leave... Sniff sniff. Fortunately, they get to stay home and a sitter is comin and staying here with them so their routine doesn't change. It's me I'm worried about. They are my teddy bears at night!! I always have a hard time sleeping when I don't have them to snuggle with! Have you thought about face timing or skyping her? This may sound weird, but we actually do make a couple of video calls to our crew when we are away just so they can "see" us and hear our voices!! We also peek in often at our security cameras and spy! Lol Good luck!!! |
I FaceTime with mine when I am gone. I to him lucky I usually have family stay with them at my house. You are not crazy. I totally understand you being worried. Try to have fun on your trip. Sounds like she is going to have a great time |

I thought about getting some one to stay at my house, but most people work and I don't have a fence so she goes out by a lead to potty and I would be more afraid of someone here than at Paula's house. I went up and down a long list of friends in my head and would not trust any of them to watch Lola for a variety of reasons. Same goes for my parents, they have watched my sister's yorkie a bunch at their house but my dad forgot and left the side gate open once and Lucy went missing for about 4 days. I am not even sure I would trust my sister, she will often let Lucy out and forget she did. When you think of it trusting someone to watch your dog is a huge deal even at your own home. My husband had a friend from work who loved dogs, did a bit of rescue, her dad was a vet, she watched someone's dog from work and the dog somehow dug pretty quickly under a fence and got out and got hit by a car and killed. Can you imagine having that happen to you when watching someones dog, I shudder just thinking about it. OK I better stop posting about all this stuff before I decide to tell my husband I am not going skiing with him:D |
Oh my! I'm afraid I have no advice. I've never left KS for more than one night. But even then, I either left her with my parents whom I trust or at a local babysitter. I always take her bed, her blanket, a few of her toys, and a shirt with my scent on it. I think it's more stressful for me than her. She thinks it's a little vacation. I think the idea of calling or FaceTime, or even Skype is a great idea. I know KS knows when I'm on the phone calling to check. Mom says she jumps right up and looks at the phone. Idk if she understands what I'm saying but I did talk to her. I wish you and Lola the best! I'm sure she will do just fine. Y'all have a wonderful, safe trip. :) |
I keep trying to find places I can take Alfie, but in UK they have to fly in the hold, so not doing that, even on ferry's they have to either stay in the car or in a cage in kennels and even to get to France we would have to take two ferry's and about 18 hours travelling. Best if he stays with my daughter, but I don't wanna go without him. We will just have to have a lottery win for a private jet, |
