What a cutie pie! :D |
Adorable :). It isn't just her getting hit by a car there are so many preditors even in town that could get her plus unleashed bigger dogs. There have been many here who's little ones were attacked by and some killed by bigger dogs :(. I know you will do all you can to protect her, she is just to cute not to. |

I forgot to mention that my dogs also know what "thats far enough" means. Each time they started to go beyond the boundaries I tell them that thats far enough and called them to me. I love how well they listen it make life so much easier. Good luck with the training ! :) |
I'm glad you decided against the electric fence. They are notorious for being dismal failures even for large dogs. When a dog is territorial, as yours seems to be, and electric fence is pretty useless. The dog will go after whatever it is that is setting it off. Never let a dog out unattended or restrained, even if it has been well trained. I have known people who have spent years training their dogs and they have still had occasions where the dog will break and go after a squirrel or some other distraction. A long lead or a tie out for a short period of time should be enough to keep your cute little girl safe. Remember that the SPCA and other animal agencies have been warning of an increase in the theft of dogs like Yorkies and Maltese in the past 2 years. Never leave her unattended. |
Aside from big dogs running into your yard, big people and little people do also. I am convinced I stop and sped dog thieves from coming through the boat gate and taking Tibbe when I'd had him only a few months. He was out in his yard on a cold day and I was watching from inside the house where it was warmer, this car that had been up and down the alley two or three times slowly just suddenly stopped and a grown man and woman got out each of the back and started for the gate, the man heading directly to the gate handle. I came running through the back door, across the porch and into the yard, shouting and they stopped, turned, hustled back into the car and the driver sped off up the alley! I think they were attempting to steal Tibbe. So even with a fence, you have to watch them constantly while they are outside to be safe. |
