Newbie Hey all i'm a newbie to the site. I have a 10 month old puppie Daisy Mae. I am here trying to seek some information on Yorkie behavior and to learn a little more about the Yorkie breed in general. We have always had a poodle in our home, so the spoiled brat behavior is something new for us. Although we love our Daisy to death, we are sometimes challanged by her bahavior. "She's hard Headed" as my granfther would say. any advise would be greatly appreciated. |
Hi and welcome to the forum! :) Your Daisy Mae is the same age as my Mandie. Yes, they can be stubborn and quite the divas, huh? Mandie is my first Yorkie so she is training me well ;) The only tip I can give (being as I am still learning with you) is get little treats and work on some tricks and obedience things. From what I've learned..their stubbornness is more due to them being so smart. Use that smartness. I'm starting to do this myself. |

Good luck, you are in the right place and again welcome!! |
:welcome4: :yorkietal :welcome4: Hi Angie and a big YorkieTalk welcome to you and Daisy Mae! You've gotten some great advice so far. The key is getting her excited to learn -- fine ONE thing to start with and have "high value" treats handy. Teaching the "come" command is a very important one. You can do it throughout the day - make a game of it. Once she gets the idea that when you say "Daisy Mae COME" and she gets a greet for coming to her you will be on your way. Yorkies are very intelligent and very independent. They were originally bred to hunt rats and other small vermin. It doesn't take human intervention to run down a rat hole - it takes independence and bravery - which Yorkies have more than their fair share. |

Thanks to all for the responses. I have a question. I really would like the your opionon on the coat of my Daisy Mae. Is there any advise on how to keep her from getting tangled hair? i can burchs her and in 2 hors she looks tangled again. |
I just looked at your album and your girls are so gorgeous!! The only thing I can suggest for Daisy's hair is a good conditioner and maybe a spray detangler. I will say that while I was growing Mandie's hair out, it seemed to tangle more when she was at about Daisy's length. The longer her hair grew, the less problems I've had with it. (strange, huh?) I've been using a Madan pin brush and the Madan spray and it has really helped with grooming my girl's hair. |
Thanks, that is exactly what I was thinking. I assumed that as her hair grew out it would be less tangled since it would get to the point that it was close to one length. Where did you get the brush you mentioned. I have been using a shampoo from my groomer, and have been using mane and tail conditioner. What leave in conditioner do you recommend? |
