Storing potty pads that are dirty? I have kind of a dumb question......how does everyone store dirty potty pads until you are ready to wash them? I just invested in enough washable potty pads that I can get me by for a week without washing them but don't know where to store them so my laundry room doesn't smell like an outhouse. Does everyone wash them every day? I wanted to wait until I had maybe 4 or 5 until I washed them all at once. |
I don't use washables for my pup at this time but I do have 2 chinchillas that I use washable padding for the floor of their cage, I wash them every other day just on small load setting. I would think if you wanted to wait you could store them in a seal-able plastic bag? |
I got wet bags that are used for re-usable baby diapers. That's what I plan to use while I am waiting for a decent sized load to wash. Do you at least put the poop in the toilet? I am also going to spay them with an enzyme break down thing. LOL Like natures miracle to help with the smell. |

Um, what is a Wet Bag....? Is it odd I don't know what one is :p? I got a hamper from Ikea that I use just for pee pads. The hamper is a tall one that is really slim (fits anywhere) and is made of, sorta, windbreaker material (less likely to leach smells than cotton). I keep a bottle of Febreeze right by the hamper and any time I add a new pad - I spray the febreeze inside the hamper and on the outside of the hamper. I also hang a little bag of activated charcoal inside the hamper to absorb smells. It seems to all work well bc I can only smell the odor if I open the hamper. |
Yes, the poopie gets flushed down the toilet as soon as I see it on the pad so it's just the pee pee that is on the pad. I'll try to find something I can use as a hamper at WalMart. Thanks for the ideas. |

When I used cloth diapers for my babies, I had a "diaper pail" where the diapers went...dirty ones after being schlunked out in the toilet...and I kept a solution of vinegar and water in it...adding to it as needed to 'soak' the diapers. When the pail was full and/or I was ready to wash, I poured everything into the (top loader) washer, set the machine to pre-wash----advance-to-wash, added soap to the vinegar water solution, filled the auto-dispensing detergent, bleach, and fabric softener bins...fabric softener was filled with vinegar solution. I used hot water for the wash cycle, of course, and my babies never had diaper rash, and the diapers came out clean and smelled fresh. Any pail or tub (with a handle or handgrips, preferably) and a snap top or well-fitting lid would work...especially the kind that kitty litter comes in that has the divided, dispensing lid. Just an option...;):) |

I use a bin outside on my porch. It's a plastic tub and I throw my pee pads in there until there are about 6-8 dirties and then I wash them. In the summer when is hot, I have to wash more frequently. I add 1/2 cup of borax to my loads these days and it works fantastic to remove any residual odors or stains. |

It's dry here, so we don't have much of a problem, poop is thrown in toilet and pads are folded wet side together, and place in a hamper. I know some people have more odor problems and use the Diaper Genie, and you can also use a little air freshener scent in a covered wastebasket or diaper pail. |
