Think Mercy needs a playmate! Thank you everyone for the help with getting Mercy to eat. I have been trying everything to get her to eat and she will some but not much. Well this weekend we watched our son's dog. She had so much fun playing with him, and guess what as soon as I put food down she gobbled it up! (It was Spot's stew dry with a little spot's stew canned mixed in) Well Javi went home on sunday and she is back to her old self again sticking her nose up at the same food she ate with no problem all weekend. I think she might be lonely, I don't know anything about the home she came from except that she was tied to a leash in the kitchen of her old home for the last 4 years of her life so she wouldn't pee or poop all over the house and the old owner had cats so fed her cat food. We did take her to the vet she is in good health, The vet did give me a couple suggestions on food to feed her but they are the one i have hurd on here that are not very liked foods. I just love her she is my shadow everywhere I go she is there! |
Think Mercy needs a playmate! I have come to the conclusion that Mercy needs a playmate. I have been having a hard time getting her to eat, tried a lot of foods some she will eat one day but the next she won't touch, Well this weekend we watched our son's dog. They had so much fun together and guess what as soon as I would put the food down she would gobble it up! (spot's stew dry with a little spot's stew canned mixed in). Well Javi went home on Sunday and now she is back to her old ways of sticking her nose up at the food again. Mercy has been to the vet and she is in good health which I am so glad about. the only thing I know about the old home she came from is that she was on a diet of cat food and she was tied to a rope in the kitchen all the time because the old owner didn't want her pooping & peeing all over the house. I am so glad she is out of there she is my little shadow and follows me every where I go. she is just a sweety!!! |
That poor baby! I'm so glad you got her out of that situation. :(. All I can say is that I have two female yorkies and I will forever have two now. I love to watch them play together. |
When I got my first puppy we had to get him a playmate because he was mopey. I will agree that I will now have at least two dogs at a time |
She is still active but just not the same as when she had a playmate besides me LOL. Talked to hubby and he said we are not going to rush into it but we will keep our eyes out for one. Little does he know I have already been looking LOL |
Cat food is usually higher in fat and fat is really addicting so maybe you could find a food that is higher in fat at first to wean her off of her fat cravings. Buster will eat the treats he was ignoring if another dog comes over. I am so thankful she has a much better life with you. Best wishes |

I've been raising Dogs for quite a while, and have found that there is a part of their needs, which Humans can not satisfy. Possibly those here, who have witnessed the love and affection that can be had among them, will concur with my sincere recommendation, for that. Having been through several additions previously, may I suggest her companion be... Same Breed, Opposite Sex, Younger than the Resident (2 years is a good separation), A Puppy is a very good candidate as well. I, and I'm sure others here, would be glad to provide you with additional information, which is important, and will "smooth" the integration. Good Luck, and you are wise in being patient about this. PS: A word of caution, adding another Yorkie may be evidence that you have been inflicted with "Yorkieitus", which may cause you to accrue several Yorkies as time passes. Many of us here have this condition. :D |
Hi you could find the reason she ate was the thought "he's not eating my food" Merlin was really picky with treats and would only eat one type until Molly came along now he eats anything lol. As for a playmate I waited 6 years between my first and second and looking back now I so wish I had done it earlier although money and work prevented me at the time, so if you can would always say the more the merrier :) |
Well I have been spending alot of time on the internet looking at the poor baby's in the yorkie rescues, Makes my heart break to see their sad faces and wish I could go get them all! but they are just 2 far away for me to go! I have been checking all the shelters here in MN. I did call about 1 little girl 3 years old and weighs 6 pounds I found in a state close but when I told them that I had a 5 yr old daughter they said they just didn't think it would be a good match because she was so tiny. I told them I had Mercy who is 4 and weighs 5 pounds and that she is very good with Mercy she never picks her up she sits on the floor and pets her and they play good together. The lady said sorry it is their policy that they go to a home with kids 10 & over. I was disapointed but I understand. Does anyone know of any good breeders in MN any help would be appreciated! |
