Toys/rescues/Breeders It seems like every post I read on here, rescue or dogs used for breeders do not play with toys & are skiddish. He doesn't bark hardly at all & never at anybody? Why is this, what do they do to these poor dogs? My vets said Max was probally a breeder, (how could he tell) as I previous said he was tied up at some older folks house outside, so I think he ran off from his real home, whether he meant to go back or not we will ever know. He is just too well behaved to not been worked with or around someone. I wish I knew his history, but he sure has made my life happier. If ST were to happen to him I would never want a puppy I would get another mature yorkie. My only complain is he stinks as soon as 2 days after a good bath. Whyis this & what can I do? Is there a special dog food that would help with this? Sorry so much rambling about so much LOL |
I adopted Zeus a little over a year ago. :) It took him 6 months to really feel comfortable here and about a full year for me to think he is absolutely comfortable. He still has a fear of me leaving him (except when I leave the house) and I doubt he'll over get over that. He picked up his first toy about 7-8 months after we adopted him and now he will join in playing. Which is great! I'm going to give another 6 months or so before he'll bring a toy to us....fingers crossed! :D The stink could be his food. Does his bite at himself a lot? What are you feeding him now? |
If he was a breeder, he was probable kept in a cage with no human interaction, and no other pups or toys of any kind to play with.....What food are you feeding and what shampoo are you using. The vet sees nothing wrong with his skin? Thank you for giving this little guy the loving home that he so deserves. |
Our little Lolita warmed up to Laddy right away but it took her months to get over her fear of other people. I remember when we first got her we were watching a show on a puppy mill bust and it was so sad how she ran around the TV whining and barking when she would hear the puppies. Bless their hearts it is so sad thinking about their past lives. Thanks for giving this little one a good home. Oh and she never did learn to play with toys :(. |
Aw...I understand the no barking thing. We got Sophie 2 years ago and we predict she is probably around 5 years old. She won't play with other dogs or toys. She never barks...except when the doorbell goes off on the tv lol. She is very calm but I don't think she will ever be able to understand play. It's unfortunate. She does carry around a stuffed pink bone and sometimes wants to take it on a walk with her. Usually if she has her pink stuffed bone in her mouth that means she is mad about something. These Dogs are such a mystery! |
kibble & bits |
vet says no skin problems & thinks after teeth are cleaned it will be better. That & neuter is on my list of thing to get done! If ya'll know a food that will help pls let me know. BTW; He doesnt like breath mints lol Thanks guys |
I'm sorry, but Kibble & Bits is a junk dog food. Please consider changing it to a higher quality food. Kibbles 'n Bits Dog Food | Review and Rating A better quality dog food may help with his odor. When I switched Sabre over to Royal Canin, within 3 days he started to not smell and started to smell sweet like Pixie. |
Buddy my golden is a rescue. He was never used as a breeder but was severely neglected by his previous owner. It took him months to learn that it was okay to play with toys and even chew on things like antlers, Kongs, & bully sticks. He was terrified of squeaky toys when the yorkies would play with them. Roxy my littlest one would keep bringing him toys- Drop them at his feet then bark at him- Pick up the toy and they drop it at his feet til he would touch it then she would quickly run away with the toy. She taught him how to play as well as fetch. He spent countless hours watching her fetch before he even tried to chase after the toy. His favorite toys now are a tennis ball or a finger puppet. He will toss them for hours and then catch them by himself. I had my Zoey from the moment she was born and she never played with toys ever. She was above it! |
