re-train poop question My yorkie is confined to a crate for the next 5 weeks (1 week down from 6 tommorow) anyway during the day I put her in a small cage because she feels good and wants to jump around which is a nono. We have a puppy apt so every couple hours I take her out put her on the potty side and she goes pee no problem. (sometimes she soils the smaller crate, just did while I was typing this) At night we put her in the bigger side with her bed and ample potty pad space so if she has to go she can. She pees on the pee pad but it seems as though her new thing is going poo in her bed and hiding it under her blankets. It seems she poos every day around 530am ish. So what if I beat her to the punch and get up and put her in the potty side, say go poo and then give her a treat and back to bed? Eventually I can open the doors so she can go on her own but she just jumps around to much and she has a plate in her leg. This just started and i figure she is acting out. Ideas??? |
she does bark to let us know she went . The other problem she is barking whenever we leave her alone now..I had to check on her the first week becuase she was just post surgery but the surgeons office told me to ignore her now otherwise she never stop. She has a collar on so the worst she can do is sit in it |
How old is she? Poor little pumpkin, sounds like she had a pretty big surgery! Can you just use the bigger crate with the bed on one side and the pad on the other? Since she is a puppy it is harder for her to hold her pee, it is also not healthy for her to have to. Yes- you can get up a couple minutes before 5:30, take her to her pad and make her go poo. You might have to do that a couple times so she knows she is to go poo on the pad. |
oh shes a year old. Not a puppy really. she was pretty much pee poop trained..this just started. I hve given her more than enough room in her crate at night but she still seems to think its okay to go on her bed. She never used to. She is also peeing in her crate today, alot! She doesnt have a uti as shes on clavamax for the surgery..I think shes just p"O'd at me for keeping her in the crate. |

If you know her schedule and can get her to relieve herself before she does it herself, then I don't see why not. I would say to take the blankets out, but she probably needs the comfort from her surgery. Can you place something else in there? When you clean her bed do you use an enzyme remover, because maybe she feels that is the place to go if she can't get to the other side. I thought the puppy apartments allow them to cross over? or is she abusing the privilege? |

She cant use both sides of the puupy apt yet as they dont want her moving around..at all. She a terrier so you know she wants to move..I put everything in the wash and spray down everything with enzyme cleaner each time. I think shes just pissed. I called the surgeons office and they said to up her medication. so ill try that tonight. If it isnt enough they may want to up it a bit more. At present it doesnt put a dent her in activity level and I so want her to recover fully and be able to run like every other dog...poor things been through enough... |

Hope your baby feels better very soon and you get her figured out or vice versa. |
Isnt it odd? They will have maybe 4-5 greats days and then say "to hell with it" and just go anywhere, anytime..lol |
re-train question Kim, You may not be able to answer me on here & if not pls email me. It's about the pet appt. I rescued a 6 yr old and he is housebroken to go outside' I have seen the advertisement for the pet appt but can't get a stright answer from any rep. Nor do they offer gurantees.Having used it, do you think my older dog could be re-rained with this appt to go potty inside. I have RA & the cold weather is very difficult for me. These appts are very expensive as you and I would appreciate your advise, bc I dnt have the money to waste if you dnt think he can be retrained. I dnt want to mess him up or confuse him. Thanks you so much. My spell check isn't working, is AB else having problems?:confused::confused: |
