Call around till you find a vet |
No Medicine I was advised not to give them anything. Buddy slept the whole way on the floor in his carrier; I had to wake him up when we landed. He had nothing but water right before the flight and a tiny bit to eat 3 hours before. |
Many vets suggest that. But, never if the dog or puppy is in baggage. So, I don't know haw mch your baby weighs, BUT 12 1/2 mgm of diphenhydramine seems like a lot. But, if that is correct, all you do is read the label on the liquid for the number of milligrams per milliliter of liquid and give enough to equal the amt the vet ordered. For example ONLY....if there are 12 1/2 mgm in a peaspoon then tht is how much you would need to give. The dose as indicated by the Veterinary Drug Handbook page 283 states that 2-4 mgms per KG (2.2 lbs) by mouth as often as every 8 hours is recommended when used for motion sickness and vomiting. That would be the closest reason for using it in your case. So, if your puppy weighs, say 5 pounds, you would give 4-8 mgms. Hope this helps..but, of course, your vet has the final say.. |
HUmm, I am sorry I have no idea...I hope you find your answer though! |
I would call a different Vet and ask them if your Vet is not around. It's better to be safe. Good luck! Have a wonderful trip. :D |
how long is ur flight? bunjee just took his first plane ride. 1-1/2 hr b4 the flight, i walked him, let him play with his kong toy, and walked him some more as well as "meeting" a few kids at the airport who stopped to go goo-goo-ga-ga over him. i never heard a peep from him during our 1.25 hr flight. |
12.5 = 1.5mL My vet said that 12.5 of a pill = 1.5mL of liquid only and only if it is the childrens benedryl. per 8 hours also 1.5 mL is the proper dosage for her weight. Hope this helps! |
I have been flying with my dogs for years and even with this little pup I have had no problem and no need for meds. They tend to sleep. My vet will not recommend any meds because he says there is problems with the pressure. He says that you can't predict what will happen. I don't know if it was because my dogs were under 5 lbs or what. I too, recommend that light food, light drink. Exercise them GOOD before the trip so they are ready for a nap. :aimeeyork |
