Not feeling to swell tonight Sam's vet visit was this afternoon. He got the last of his vacs except for Rabies, and a pill for the tapeworm. Now he's conked out in his bed and I think he's feeling pretty puny. Poor baby got poked, prodded, and pulled every which way from Sunday. He's a "monstrous" 2.8 lbs, according to the tech who weighed him. The excessive tearing isn't an infection, but his hair is irritating his eyes. He has a tiny bit of wax in his ears, but thankfully no mites. Yay! Vet said to clean with witch hazel on a cotton ball, and they will check them again in two weeks. On the bad side, he hasn't eaten since this morning. He drank a little water when we got home, but I can't get anything down him. He even turned down Greek yogurt, which is a total first. I have a feeling it's going to be a very long night. I'm going to move his ex-pen next to the couch so that I can stay close to him and keep an eye on him. Any suggestion to get something in him? He's already feeling bad; I don't want to stress him by trying to force feed. |
Poor little guy how many shots did he get? |
do you have childrens benadyrl? Sometimes that makes them feel a bit better after vaccines. Next time you might give him some before he gets vaccinated. For a pup his size....hmmm...maybe 1/4 teaspoon |
Poor Sam. I would try and get him to eat something. He's so little to go without food for very long. Do you have any nutrical if he should need it? |

I pray Sam will be back to himself quickly. If you don't have Nutrical, you can use white Karo. For the hair by his eyes, if you don't plan to trim, you can use a tiny bit of Vaseline under his eye to keep the hair down. Use a fresh jar devoted to this purpose only and dab a qtip in it instead of fingers. It isn't pretty, but it helped me with Max when his hair was growing out. I also used a tiny flea comb with the tines spaced closely together to comb the hair down at the corners of the eyes and train it to lie down. Best wishes to Sam. |
Happy to read that he ate cottage cheese. Yay! |
Oh dear, poor Sam... Maybe you should try elven bread! Seriously, I'm glad that he ate some cottage cheese! Something is better than nothing - I hope that he gobbles more down soon. |
I have a recipe that the breeder gave me for Turkey Bake. Simple as can be and they gobble it up. When I can't get my guys to eat, that is the way we go. I also give them a cube of it each morning as a snack, and sometimes again at night. You can make up a tray of it, cut it into cubes and freeze it. I always have several bags of it in the freezer and defrost a few cubes at a time. If you are interested in this very simple recipe, let me know. |

I have a completely different pup this morning! He quite happily let the world know he was feeling better at 6:30 a.m. I really need to teach him that Saturday morning is for sleeping in! He emptied his bowl, peed and pooped in the right place, and already ran his little legs off playing. Now he's sitting by the table waiting for Sarah to drop a bite of french toast, lol. I should probably put him in the ex-pen until she's finished, but I'm just so tickled he's acting like a normal happy little fuzz muffin. :D |
Hooray! So glad to hear he's eating and back to himself :) |
Very happy to hear Sam is back to himself this morning. :) |
So glad to hear that he's back to normal. I hate the once a year check up. Bella is usually sore and sleeps more than normal. I understand how you feel. It can be scary. |
Here is a recipe for Turkey Bake. As I said I give each of my dogs a cube every morning and night. They love it and it is all protein and a great snack. I use 1 pound of ground turkey and one egg, this calls for a larger amount, but I only have two dogs. I freeze them in zip lock bags and defrost a few squares every other night. 3 pounds ground turkey 1 can pure pumpkin 2 eggs 1 tlbs honey 1 bag frozen peas (again, I use about 1/2 bag) Mix all ingredients together. Wisk the eggs before putting in the bowl Put into a baking dish sprayed with vegetable oil and bake in 350-degree oven for 1 hour (I bake it a little longer) Let cool and cut into squares. Squares can be frozen until needed. The pumpkin can also be substituted with yams, sweet potatoes or apple sauce. Also other vegetables can be used like lima beans or carrots. Never corn. |
