Introduction and puppy question Hello everyone, This my 1st post and I hope I'm writing in the right category. I have a 12 yr. old Yorkie named Megan. I rescued her at age 5. Her previous owner basically did not like her and had her on Valium since she was a puppy because she felt Megan was too hyper. We weaned her off that along with other drugs given and she is truly a blessing. If I had one wish, it would be to make her 2yrs old. as it's going to break my heart whenever her time comes. I hope to get a picture of her up soon. She is truely the Prince---Cess here. I have a question about a new yorkie puppy I've adopted. My son who lives in California recently adopted a 5 yr. old yorkie a rescue center that also had a yorkie puppy up for adoption. I had him bring her home and Planned to fly out and pick her up to bring home. I've had some health problems come up and my son's getting ready to start a new job. My question is, Should, could I fly her on a nonstop fight from LA to Nashville, TN. In cargo? The flight is about 4 hours long. She's 4.5 months old but only weighs 1.8lbs. ( tiny I know ). He's had her for 4 weeks now and she seems to be well adjusted. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Robin |

Hi Robin. Welcome to YT! First, thank you so much for adopting your Megan! I hope that you'll be able to post some pictures soon. :) To your question regarding cargo...this is an absolute no. Cargo for a small dog, let alone a puppy, is pretty much a death sentence. There is no temperature control and no one to watch over them. Puppies are especially vulnerable. This is even more serious with a baby less than 2 lbs... If there is no way that you could fly there or you son to fly to you, I would recommend looking into courier flights. |

Oh gosh....no, I wouldn't fly her in cargo...she is just too little for it; and also bc she is coming from a shelter, you don't have the luxury of someone (like a breeder) who knows her extremely well and could tell you details that you'd need to know before even thinking about cargo (personally, I'd never do it, unless it involved some unforeseen disaster that I can't think of). There is a member here who will courier puppies/dogs from pick-up to you at your airport - she is just a lovely lady. She is pretty reasonable too. I will PM you her user name. Also, WELCOME TO YT! Can't wait to hear more about your current kiddo, and your new kiddo. |
Thank you all for replying. I really felt it would not be a good idea. Ann, thank you very much for the information for using a courier. I have sent her a message and awaiting a response!!! |
If you need someone to take care of her until you can find someone to fly with her, I would be very happy to help out. Just PM me if you need me. |
