Baby Teeth Hi All. We got our sweet girl 5 months ago. I am concerned about her teeth so I was googling and found this site. She has quite a few double teeth. We noticed that her breath was starting to smell. She lost a tooth while playing that we found and it seemed to be decayed inside. She is going to be spayed later on this week which I am very nervous about to begin with. I am thinking I should have these teeth pulled but wanted to see what the consensus is before speaking with the vet. She has tons of teething toys and we play with the rope all the time to help loosen the teeth but she is 7 months now and has not lost all of her baby teeth? |
It is normal for yorkies to have baby teeth that did not fall out and to get them pulled out when they are spayed. Just tell your vet you would like all her baby teeth that haven't fallen out pulled. Make sure you get the pre spay blood work and everything should go fine. Vets do this surgery a lot so they are pretty good at it. |
Hello and welcome to YT. Yes, it is very common for Yorkies to retain baby teeth and not uncommon at all for your vet to pull them while they perform a spay or neuter procedure. When Jack was neutered 3 years ago, they pulled 6 baby teeth and our little Izzy was spayed last week and she had 6 baby teeth pulled and her nails trimmed since she's a wiggle worm and doesn't like me trimming her nails. I completely understand your being nervous about your little one undergoing a spay, but she should be just fine. I think it hurts us more than them. Izzy was back to her normal self after just a couple of days. Good luck with everything! |
I agree with the others. Mocha had his double row baby teeth pulled when he went in for neutering. It is very common and no need to worry. In fact, this is the best time to do this since you won't have to put her under a second time to pull teeth. I even had his chip planted the same time as well. Good luck. |
I just had my 6 month old Maggie spayed a week ago. She had 5 baby teeth removed and was micro chipped at the same time. She did great! I agree, have the pre-op blood work done. My vet did an EKG also. |

I chose to have the EKG, just to be safe. It didn't cost much and it made me feel better. Maybe that was silly of me but....well that's just me  |
never silly!!! always better to be safe than sorry or regret that you didnt. |
