Worried I caught my young yorkie attached to my male. She is only a year old and he is the same size as her. I'm afraid she may be pregnant. Her nipples are starting to pop out. Does this mean she's pregnant or can it be just because she went into heat. Also may she be in danger because of her age and his size. |
If you are planning to have her spayed you can do it now. It is unwise to breed the first heat. Welcome to YT. |
Yes, unless you know the lines of both parents and that there are no large dogs and that both lines are healthy with no genetic defects, etc., it's probably far safer to have her spayed and prevent this very young dog from having to go through a pregnancy, whelping, nursing, raising puppies. That's an awful lot to put on a young female and as someone who years ago bred a lovely female Doberman I loved so much with the help and advice of a mentor and lost her shortly after whelping to complications, it's a risk you need to think long and hard about. You could lose your little baby as I did and it has always hurt and always will. I still miss her. |
Welcome to YT! Get her spayed now, as the above poster said it is unwise to breed her this young. If she was bred, she can have an emergency spay, get her to a vet to confirm pregnancy. |
I'm glad you came here to ask for advice. Kudos to you. Yes, I would advice to go ahead and do a spay. This will prevents "accidents" in the future. |

Oh and yes, when a male "attaches" to a female, her nipples pop out...usually means she's pregnant....;) |
